The Austrian Drop Off Tank

I've been reading (again) through the whole thread, but it's impossible!!!
Every time i face the pics i stay there forever looking at the marvels you've achieved, so forgive me if you already talked about the coral program/additives that you are using but can you tell what Ecothech/Aquaforest(?) product are you using/planing and the expected effect? I myself am planing to start using some additives but from I've read it's very difficult to choose or it's to much complex (€€€).

thanks!
only Ecotech products i´m using are the Vortech pumps...
from Aquaforest im using:
400ml of Carbon / Phos minus / ZeoMix
6 drops Pro Bio S / NP Pro / Vitality / Build / Energy / Amino Mix

that is what i´ve achieved so far:

Your tank and specimens are stunning. Have you tried emerald crabs for the bubble algae? There's probably a fish, that I'm not knowledgeable, that'll take care of that kind of algae.
It's pretty invasive.
thanks!
the fish is too big for sure... i´m looking for those craps but they are hard to come by...

I just want frags of your blue acros.. :)
haha... no frags till now

some quick tank pics:

Fox face, (Siganus vulpinus), and rabbitfish (Siganus sp...) are good choices for bubble algae removal. Rabbits and Foxfaces swim less than tangs, but do a great job at cleaning up nuisance algae. Zebrasoma tangs will also eat valonia/bubble algae from time to time.

Personally, I find the scribbled rabbitfish, (Siganus doliatus), to be an attractive fish that does wonders on that sort of stuff.

i love rabbitfish! just don´t know if my tank would be ready for another "big" fish... :uhoh3:

The aquascape is looking better and better with the growth of all your corals. the mixed reef tank look is really coming together as your tank matures. I think this tank's got a TOTM in its future!
thanks mate!
wow TOTM... i think i´m far away from that... have to get a lot of things in order first...
flow
cyanos
aiptasia
bubble alge

but thank you

Congrats on the build. Do you notice inhabitants like hanging in the deep section more that shallow or vice-versa? Fans for cooling working well? What do think the temp differential without fans would be?

thanks!!
the fish like to stay more in and around the drop off area but my leucosternon likes to swim through the shallow area as well. the Squamipinis are more at the drop
the fans help me to keep the temp in a manageable area.. had non over my old tank and it really helped me to keep it around 28°C instead of going over 29°C

now that you mention it, I see them. That's the challenges of a reef tank isn't it. there are ways to deal with each of those pests. perhaps you could document here how you're going about combating each.

yes and the main reason in my opinion is the live rock...
never gonna use that again... RealReefRocks will be used in my next build... build two tanks for friends with those and it looks amazing and they are very happy!

i will document all my progress... bubble algae been the least of my problems :deadhorse:

Cheers

Hi Flo,

Thanks for sharing your current AF dosage. It has help me to understand more about AF.
As told before, I'm still going thru the study road since I've not really understood what are the essential and the difference between other methods. I'm also trying to understand the exit barriers, the cost and effort since i don't like to dose manually every day.

no problem mate!

but if you don´t want to dose every day AF won´t be the right thing for you... but there are a lot of different methods with nice tanks out there!

Cheers,
Flo

Yes. That's what i'm looking at, but there are also many failures...
Please don't understand me wrong. When i mention dosing i'm talking about manual dosing and lots of bottles and drops per day... :-)
Thanks

Edited: also love the pic while lying in the coach looking at the tank. wonderfull!

yes that´s what the probiotic method from AF is about... i´m dosing several drops every day... i have not problem with it but it´s something to be mentioned! ;)

Cheers

as i said never again will my tank be in another room as the livingroom! :bounce2:

I'm not understanding you here...

Are you stating that your tanks will ALWAYS be in the living room from here on?

or that you will Never put another one in the living room?

My tank is in the basement, and I can sit on the couch and see it, but because it's down in the basement, I dont get to see it as often as I would if it were in our living room.
