Oxygen peroxide injections onto the algae itself should kill it but look up about.com for exact dosing. You also need to find the source of the problem.

Update: Sorry guys that it has taken this long, but I was busy this weekend. I just wanted to keep up with the updates. It has now been two weeks since I made all the changes suggested by this team and I see a great reduction in the amount and thickness of the GHA in my tank. I also get more skimmate on my skimmer daily and the tank is looking healthier every day.

These are some shots of the affected areas of the tank.

This rock was mostly covered by GHA before and now you can see most of it.
