The benefit of feeding clams

Paul we may be short on clams but we have other wildlife in abundance. :fun2: And a small human population. There are antelope everywhere. And bald eagles. The walleye is great here. And we have pelicans nesting in the spring. But no, we cannot build a house out of clam shells. We build them out of large boulders to keep from blowing away. :) I think you would find the rock formations amazing. :hammer:

I thought some of you might find the cost of clams here interesting.

Shelly, I actually love it there although I was not exactly in Wyoming I was stationed in Colorado for 6 months. The place is gorgeous. I loved the caves, the mountains, the snow, the people and the buffalo that I used to have to watch out for when I was driving a tank around. The best thing I like is the lack of people. Here it is hard to get away from crowds and I worked in Manhattan for 40 years. I really hate that place and think they should remove all the people, put a fence around it and burn it, then start over. But bald eagles and antellope are not the best food for fish.
I have been all over the US because of the Army and just traveling to visit or speak. We have friends in California, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida and a few places that I forgot. Most of them lived here and moved. All places have something that I really like. I was born in Brooklyn and really need to be near an ocean but I can see the beauty of many other places.

I am an army brat. Emphasis on brat. :bounce1: Born in Bremerton WA. Moved alot. Lived near the ocean most of my childhood. Okinawa, CA, FL, TX. I loved New Jersey. To many places to list. I also love the caves around here. And you are right, my fish will not eat the antelope. The Eagles are illegal to even own a feather. And my fishes would not like the fine accommodations at the local jail. :worried:Hubby would love to move closer to the ocean when we retire. I hate the crowds though. I can drive to the mountain in ten minutes and then drive to the top if I want. Peaceful up there. :reading: So I bet we have some things in common. Besides fish.

I am having trouble finding a source for live black worms. Emailed two places and have not received a reply. Maybe they will check their emails today.

Off to work,

I never ordered worms on line as I can get them at an LFS. River muscles should be fine for fresh water fish

Thank you, maybe I will see if I can call them. I have emailed them twice. :( Have you personally purchased worms from them?

Shelley

Hi Shelley,

Our local club did a group buy for frozen blackworms from them a few years ago. I wasn't involved in setting things up, but I do know that the deal went through without a hitch.

My fish went crazy for the frozen worms. I'd love to get some more, but I can't find anyone else who is interested. It's not financially feasible for me to do a buy on my own - min order size and shipping to Canada makes it pretty expensive.

Jerry knowing they are on the up and up Really helps. I will give them a call. Oh and last night the nice lady at the grocery store marked my clams down to half price! :bounce1:

Shelly, just drive east about 2,000 miles and bear right at the Statue of Liberty. I will give you all the clams you like. But you have to stay and eat some with me. raw. :D

Muahaha, on my way. I will be the gal with waist long red hair and riding a buffalo. Raw, hmmmm. I have eaten them in stew, and on crackers. I would love to see the statue of liberty. Can you dump half the population in the bay first though. I get a wee bit antsy around large crowds.

Called about the black worms. Just my luck they are not answering on Saturdays.

Shelley

I will take you on my boat past Miss Liberty, but the buffalo has to stay on the dock because my boat is white and he may shed. As for the people, there are only 8 or 9 million of them here, you won't even notice them.

After we finish the clams, the oysters are even better

Ok this I gotta try One question. Why just "slightly open"? Why not just cut the muscle that holds the shell closed since you're going to freeze it anyways?

Ok I now have black worms. Followed the direction on keeping them in cold water in the fridge. The look on my darling husbands face was priceless! It is just a temporary solution. I will be setting them up with their own container later. He did say I had to have them moved before company on super bowl Sunday. Worms anyone?

Did I miss something on the correct procedure for freezing my clams?

Shelley

Why not shuck them raw and toss them in a blender? Us rhode islanders can shuck pretty fast ya know...

You can do that if you like but it makes a mess and you lose most of the clam as many of the pieces are to small or to big. I just shave off paper thin slices and they are all the same size, no waste. But I am also using large chowder clams, not tiny Sissy clams. I slice off larger pieces for the larger fish and custom make the food. I also don't completely open the clam before I freeze it because you lose most of the juice but you can do that if you like, it is not that much of a difference. I live on Long Island and my family owned a seafood business. I eat clams every week so I have also shucked a lot of clams.
