My new Desardini tang AKA Red sea sailfin tang is the best algea eater I have ever had. Beautifull too.

He eats every algea their is:

Chaeto
Green hair
Calerpa
red turf
and last but not least the dreaded

Drum roll please

Buble algea :D :D

He kept my tunze pump so clean now, they used to have buble algea sucked up to the side of the pumps, now they are totally cleaned. I even saw the tang took a large buble algea and pop it with his mouth and then swallowed. cool ehh ?? :D :D and the best thing is he was big enough to stand up to the bully purple tang. The only draw back so far is when he sees pellet food dispensed, he runs the other way :D :D

Regular sail fin won't do, it has to be the Red sea variety, they are more expensive but are well worth it. I got this one at 6th ave for $60.00 but he usually sells for much more.

thats funny that you say it has to be Red Sea, In my 55 that crashed i had a regular sailfin that ate everything. no fish is a sure thing to eat any type of alge, its hit or miss, luck of the draw. It has nothing to do with where it came from.

I have heard that the regular sail fin ate buble algea but he is hit and miss(I used to have one and he never touch any bubles), the Redsea one however will definitely eat buble algea :D

All are a hit or miss. As said above there is no sure thing when it comes to what a wild animal will consume in your tank :)

That being said, I've had a RS sailfin that did not eat bubble algae and only went after pellets and nori :( Guess that is a good thing, but I needed the bubble removed.

Naso's are good for bubble as well, but IME less likely then a Sailfin (either or).
