The Big Controller Comparison Chart.

If you have one of these controllers, you would not need another controller for your calcium reactor. Am I correct?

For most of them that is correct. You just need to make sure your choice can accommodate a pH probe, preferably 2 probes, one for the reactor and one for the Tank.

RobbyG, this has been a most helpful thread, thanks for all of your hard work. I'm designing a new system and am very excited about the Biomatix. Your Biomatix Pre-release Review mentioned an update in April, but the last entry was from March 13.? Do you have enough info yet to afford a spreadsheet analysis along with the other controllers, or is it too early? I'm planning on going with either the Biomatix, Aquatronica, or ACIIIPro.

I wish I could add the Biomatix to the Chart but there is just not enough information available yet. I was promised that as soon as they are ready to release the product I would get a better look at the specifications. I will update this thread as soon as I know something.

What is the best/most popular controller out in the market right now that pretty much have all the functions if price wasn't a factor.

The Best, is hard to say. If you want it broken down by which has the Most or is Best in a certain category.
Based on USA voltage requirements I would say.

Features: Aquatronica / Profilux
Popularity: ACIII Pro
Build Quality: Biotopus II
Expandability: Aquatronica

From what I can see $350 More for the AC3 pro gets you

Salinity probe port
DO probe port
2 more float switches
2x20 LCD versus 2x16
16 more plugs
Memory for 60 more lines of code

Worth it?
The Salinity \ DO probe and 2 extra Level sensors are the best justification for spending the extra cash. If you don't need those then...

Hi Robby,

Thanks for all your good info and help. I'm looking at the AC3 Pro on Reefgeek.com and I only see DC8. Where do you see 16 more plugs and float switches?

Thanks, elzool. Looking at the chart, looks like the AC III is a better buy then the AC Pro III if you want to also uses to control your calcium reactor. AC III is the only controller on that chart that has the 2nd pH Probe Monitor/Control. With this, you can have a pH reading for your tank and the second pH reading for your calcium reactor. Am i correct?

Thats the way it seems to me, goofy though to have the more expensive controller not have that feature.

I'm debating between these two, a Profilux or possibly a Biomatix if they are ready for prime time in the near future.

robbyG, what controller would you recommend to monitor an LFS. With about 10 or so sumps and at least 30 to 40 tanks? I def. don't need to monitor every tank, prob just a main one plumbed into each sump. Another thing is how long can the probes extend, to properly monitor these tanks?. I have some tanks that are at least 50 to 100ft from others,

If you look at the Neptune comparison chart towards the bottom you'll see the maximum controlled devices.

Oh, and they also say the display on the Pro is a 4x20 FWIW

My mistake, yes it's 4x20 versus 2x16

You need a lot of probes if your going to be monitoring 10 sumps.
Are you thinking of one controller to monitor everything or using multiple controllers? If it's just one then the only unit that can do that many probes is the Aquatronica. If you plan on using more than one controller your options get larger. I know the Aquatronica can do 70ft cable runs from the controller to the Powerbars and probes. It would seem an ideal choice since you could use the controller hooked into a USB hub and then the hub connecting into several powerbars, one powerbar next to each sump and each of these powerbars has 6 usb ports for connecting pH Probes etc., Level sensors and Temperature probes.

The Biotope has the ability to control a 2nd or up to 4 pH probes Monitor/Control.

Thanks Eleban I did not catch that one.

Jefferey thats not the case. Many of the controllers can do more than 1 pH probe.

Aquamedic = 20 pH Probes
Aquatronica = 20 pH probes
Biotope = 4
Aquasmart = 2
AC III = 2
Basicline = 2
Profilux = 2
Elos = 2

That is not correct on the AC3 or AC3Pro. The max pH probes on the AC3 is 16, and it is 15 on the AC3Pro.
