WOW very nice tank!

Warning: I don't think Vortechs and acrylic are compatible. There is a member on RC who had severe heat damage to his tank from a Vortech. Somone might be able to post the thread.

no problemo with the vortechs

ive used these with acrylic before and i know/freinds of mine that have used them long term on acrylic

but if i do find out anything different, then there are many ways around it

one being, as this tank water is being chilled by 2 x 88w eco coolers by deltec

i will also be cooling the fish room by air con, this will be ducted around the room, also with 2 x small outlets, from ducting, over the vortech housings

Great tank! Glad to see another UK reefer, I think this is the biggest home reef in the UK I've seen.

The fellow RC'er with the acrylic vs vortech problem occured when the vortechs were used with acrylic 1" thick, which Ecotech advises against if I remember correctly (could be wrong, don't hate me lol). Plus his portion of the tank that was heated by the ecotech was also a stressed member of the tank, and by the looks of it, the dry chamber for abyss's tank is doing nothing but keeping the dry side dry. Tank looks gorgeous, congrats!

On a side note, do your friends find it a hinderance to to flow control having the vortechs straight front/back & side/side? I am building a new tank and am planning on having the in tank circulation being handled by 4-6 vortechs and am excited to hear what others are doing with the vortechs!

Cheers,
Scott

Scythanith

thanks for the comments, the vortech chamber is only 10mm thick and i am pretty sure this wont have any heat issues

as for the front to back, left to right flow, i just wanted to be a bit different and utilize as much of the vortechs ability to cross the longest distance, ie- top right to botoom left and visa versa

directing flow over the majority of coral growth etc

and partly, because the area where they will cross paths, will be where my bommie of anemones will be, and this will give a better effect in the tank

we will see :p

i did take delivery of a couple of shallow frag tanks this morning at 0500, 4 x 2 x 15" these are just so i can get the stuff in vats, well some of it, out onto a fragging tower, i also want to use this to keep 3 new nems in, which i will be collecting in a couple of weeks

all RBTA,s from rareocean, aswell as a couple of different bubble tips

kind regards

and bottom

im running this with a very basic GHL set up, just enough to keep it going, there is a 10k 400w over top

the middle has a few fish in, infact, each chamber has some fish in

and the circulation in each chamber apart from the return, is a tunze stream

however, i did manage to get hold of 4 x eco tech marine mp40w gen 2,s today

and ive tried one on the middle tank, there just great, tonns of flow

ill keep you all posted

kind regards

rupert

:p :p

I would sleep more soundly if you moved that powerbar off the floor....the one that is sitting on the ground near the skimmer....

Guys,

its been a while but with the house sale going through etc.

so i have been busy, out of a total of just over 400kgs of live rock, i had just over half of this stored at a freinds, and it was time to move it

so all was bought back to my house, this was due to himself having some decorating done

so heres my progress, and the house sale is going fine, surveys now done, just a matter of time now

anyway, back to the subject in hand, i spent all day, and just 4 x salt buckets to get all this back and sorted, most rock was just moved damp
