Me and my wife went to the zoo the other day.i was kinda exctited to go and see the aquairum part, when i got there we were not that impressed with it.dont get me wrong i did like the one tank when you first walk in but there wasnt a real varity of stuff in the reef tank, and the other tanks where kinda dark looking and some just had fish and thats it.i was wondering who supplys the fish and stuff to the zoo.i was wondering if all the people from the club got together and donated some of there corals to the zoo and make a real awsome tank to view(sps corals, clams, ext).the only reason i say this i been to some peoples houses to buy frags and they have better setups than the zoo does.probally the best tanks i seen where at hectors place in brunswick, aquairum adventure had a really cool tank there i was sad when they tore that tank down i used to go there just to look at the tank.all iam saying i wish there was a way to make the zoo aquairum place really stand out and wow people when they go there.

That would be a really cool thing. Have a reef donated by the club. Maybe have them set one up, or change an existing tank over, you know something crazy like 5000g ;) Then they can mount a nice bronze marker next to it with C-SEA on it. Would be cool if every member would donate 1 frag to the reef.

yes that would be cool to have a tank in the zoo with the clubs name next to it i wonder if that was every brought up at a meeting

Hi,

From what I understand the aquarium section at the Zoo is on a limited time plan. When they remodel the Primate bldg. the fish section will be gone. Don't know where it is going but according to the guys that maintain the tanks that is the plan. The Zoo probably does not want to invest much knowing the limit life of those displays. A group is working on a new aquarium building somewhere in the Cleveland area, but they have been working on it for several years.

I love the zoo, but I am always saddend by the lack of aquatics, but I am now even more saddend by the thought of not having it there. There are so many people who's only encounter with marine life is via public zoos. It is a huge asset regardless of it's limited presentation. I wonder if there is something the surrounding community can do to make this a stronger attraction and then have a demand that would make them want to invest into it.

well that sucks i hope they build a new aquarium building in cleveland.i know when i went to myrtle beach they have an aquarium them it was really cool there.where is the best aquarium in the us to go to.

I remember a few years back someone was doing a tank teardown and tried to donate all of their livestock, claimed the zoo wasn't interested.

You guys know the time and money invested in your reef tanks. The zoo doesn't have either of these things.

if you like Jellies check out the Akron Zoo. that is all they have as far as aquariums but it is pretty cool.

we went to Toledo Zoo between Christmas and New years. they have a pretty nice setup. I would say twice as much as Cleveland.

Friday we are supposed to goto "Pittsburgh zoo & PPG Aquarium"
will let you know how there's is.

the zoo started me out in this whole adventure my 3 year old at the time wouldn't leave the aquatics section. So i got him a goldfish, man oh man what happened from there :) We need an aquarium back in Cleveland but with the CRAPPY ECONOMY I DON'T SEE IT HAPPENING ANY TIME SOON.

I am currently in Chicago on a business trip. I got done early today and checked out the Shedd Aquarium. It was PACKED! I didn't have a camera so I grabbed one of those instant ones. Once I have them developed, I'll post pics (if they came out).

I believe the Cleveland Aquarium has been on the drawing board for a very long time. Without a strong tourist base, I think it will be very difficult for Cleveland to muster the funds, especially in this environment.

I would be happy to donate to this cause as my kids go to the zoo like 3 times a month during the summer. I am a buisness owner who will gladly contribute to a cause like this. I will personally bring this up at the next meeting. Maybe if any of the C-Sea Board Members can check into this before the next meeting, and possibly see if the zoo has any ideas.

Glad you guys like the shedd aquarium. My family and I are planning on going to visit Chicago Memorial day weekend.

I did a little reading on this. So far the aquarium has raised approximately $150,000 with a total needed of $35-50 million. Some of the equipment from Sea World was donated as well. The group is working on a professional fundraiser to raise additional money. However, given the current state of the union, its probably gonna be a while.

Jeff have you had any dialogue with the zoo as far as their aquatics? I would hate to see them lose theirs as well.
