The club frag tank build

Hey Chris whats the trough for? I have a 5 ft 95gal acrylic tank thats beat (very scratched) I don't know if it would work let me know.

That may work sweet Russ, The trough is a way to store tank water so when all the frags get bagged they will be using tank water, if we have a couple hundred frags thats a ton of water so large sump will be needed.

Okay, sorry it took a while, but here's the two options... The first will take 2 sheets of acrylic, the second will take 3 sheets. The dimensions are 48x96x8. If we go with 2 sheets I'd recommend 3/8" if we go with the 3 sheets, I think we could get away with 1/4". LMK if you have any questions.

Very Nice, well.....that is some major frag holding/ growing area.
Sounds like the plan is comming together nicely. Give us some more details Chris on how your doing this.

Where we getting the acrylic? I'll see if I can swing a deal through one of my clients and maybe get some better pricing soon as we figure out how much we need. Nothing like having a local tooling shop as a sponsor? he he

I have an account with a local plastic shop that supplies most of the other plastic dealers... Not sure the costs can get much lower.

Eric, I can donate some of my time to help you with that frag tank if needed. Its been awhile since I had acrylic shavings for dinner. Kinda miss it. LOL!

LOL! Thanks Russ, I'll probably take you up on the offer once we have the board determine the route to take... I've already PM'd Chris the price range depending on materials used which I think he relayed to the board, just need to know the final decision.

I really like the idea of a full top with routed out openings. I vote for the extra money, but it's up to the rest of the club and board what route they want to go.
I think since we want the tank to be used for years to come it should be done the best we can.
What do you all think??
Chris

I would say that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. We want this tank to last forever.

Do we need separate checking accounts? Chris?

hmmmm I might be able to put it in my shed, the stand may be a problem though. we may have to build the stand so it can bolt together so it will store easier, or someone could keep it at their house and use it as a bench? My garage is so packed though.
We'll figure something out I'm sure.
BTW I fragged off like 40 or 50 frags today of 3 high end Reefermadness corals. I can't wait, I bet they will have some serious growth by October, may even be able to re-frag them by Oct. LOL

I'll see if my Pop's can just keep it in his garage since it will be setup there anyway for the first swap... He's got the room for it, maybe we can get someone to build a nice "car cover" for it. :D

Sweet.................A cover is a great Idea. Can anyone here sew? LOL.
A pond customer that I take care of has a 150 gallon rubbermaid trough. It has only had waterplants in it over last winter in the house. She want's to sell it, I think it'd be perfect for our sump, I'm gonna let it sit there for a while till she gets sick of it and has to get rid of it.
Whats a good price for a like new 150 rubbermaid?
Chris

Hey Eric would it cost any more to make 2 tanks 2'x8', instead of the 1, 4X8' tank? Reason I ask is that it seems to me that while the idea of a 4x8 frag tank is great I think practicle application may be lacking. People looking to buy frags would have to circle the tank, to get a good look at all the frags, leaving no room for the sellers. Also someone's alocated spot will be in the middle of the tank, making it a less than desirable position.
Where as with 2 tanks, sellers could be on one side while buyers are on the other side. Divying up the tank could be done in 6" increments allowing for 32 front to back slots. Lighting could be set up linearly where the 4' wide tak will need lighting in rows. And storage seems to me would be easier. I could easily store a 2x8 stand but definately wouldn't have room for a 4x8.

Just a thought, I realize my post isn't the most articulate thing, but I think the club might find it more practicle to have two 2x8 tanks than one 4x8 frag tank.

You know I really like that idea also. I think it would much more practical that way. They can also be plumbed to the sam sump.
