The Cove - Wow

A bit surprised that I didn't see more about this movie on the threads.

I just watched it for the first time. Besides the main story of the Dolphin massacre, its actually a pretty cool spy-like thriller film.

Of course, that is quickly overshadowed when you see what they spied on. I was absolutely in shock. Terrified.

Prior to seeing the movie, I was thinking to myself that it's not right for 'us' to interfere with other cultures...ie - we can complain about them killing those dolphins but our food industry treats many animals just as inhumanely, imo.

Then the movie spoke about the mercury factor in the Dolphin meat and how it is not really edible, at least not if you want to stay healthy.

That fact alone makes this practice appalling and combine that with the fact that almost no one in Japan knows about this and you realize quickly that this is not a cultural issue.

As they say, it's all about the Benjamin's here and somewhere a line has to be drawn. What they are doing is seriously tragic.

I highly encourage everyone to watch this movie.

Just watched the trailer on youtube... Looks to be a great documentary. Hopefully something can be done, but like you said, it's all about the benjamins!

OT- I have the documentary "who killed the electric car" which should be a serious eye opener to everyone who drives a gasoline powered car and think that electric cars are just coming out... If you have "the cove" maybe we can swap.

Let me know,

Always interested in neat and informative documentaries.

Yeah I watched Who Killed the electric car? Loved it. I bought the Cove on Uverse so cant really swap...sorry.

Im always careful with documentaries because clearly, they only always tell one side of the story.....Ive always believed that it'd be great if every documentary always had a counter documentary.....

The reason I say that is because in "Who killed the electric Car?" I thought that there was a lot left out that would better explain some of the decisions the big automakers made. Still, its obvious they screwed up and I agreed with the overall point of the movie but I thought they made them look a little too evil.

In The Cove, there isnt much of that.....it's plain as day that what is going on there is unnecessary in every way. Again, had it been culture, I'd step back but the movie does a great job of pointing that there is NOTHING cultural about the practice. Disgusting is all i can say.

I saw this movie when it first came out on dvd a few months ago and started a thread about it. what was seen in that movie made a bunch of us sick to our stomachs.

LOL!

OT- Can anyone recommend other good documentaries?

Food, Inc.

Very eye-opening if you don't already know about factory farming practices and why there are some patents on our food supply.
Definitely makes you more conscious about what you're putting in your body and where you spend your food dollars.
