The deadly Blue Reef Chromis

BZ sent me a different type of snail than what I ordered. Didn't even bother to tell me they had substituted. Guess they just thought I wouldn't notice the difference. When I called they said, oh yeah we are out of those. Also when I called them about a fish not eating in QT, they told me I didn't need to quarantine the fish, just put it in my DT and then it will eat. The guy said all my fish were already ich carriers, it wouldn't matter even if the fish had ich. Not ordering from there again.

I'm going to throw this thread way off, but I've kept at least 3 seperate groups of green chromis in moderately sized tanks for easily over a years time. One group of 6 I had for 5+ years. They lived 3 years in a 35 hex. The last group I had for 2+ years, raised them from very small to over 2 inches. They would routinely spawn as a group in the front right corner of my tank. It was very fun to watch.

I have also kept 8 blue reef chromis in a group for over a year in a 150 gallon Caribbean biotope. They were also not too much trouble after I got them over the initial die off.

Looking back I think 2 things played a big role in keeping the peace. First off the chromis were never the dominant fish in the tanks. With the green chromis they were always kept with large aggressive clowns. With the blues they were housed with a pair of queen angels.
Second is multiple small feelings a day. I think a hungry chromis is an angry chromis. I hope this helps anyone wanting to keep these guys.

I've had a single Blue Reef for over 2 years and it caused no issues with any fish. Lost it during a power failure.

I just added a singe one to my tank about a month again and it's been fine, no aggression. I believe that is the normal behavior for them. But there are always the exceptions.

I think this is the critical factor. I think that many people underfeed.

+1

My blue chromis (singular) is a model citizen, but I feed small amounts 2-3 times a day. He shares the tank with two Paracheilinus wrasses, a Foxface, two Ocellaris clowns, a firefish, Royal Gramma and Tailspot blenny. Haven't had any aggression issues.

Singles are not a problem, when people have issues (ignoring the uronema issue), it is groups that problematic.
