The Elegance Coral Project

Well looks like another elagance is about to bite the dust....after about a week of seperating away from his skeleton he's a bit bloated and not looking too good.

Sorry to hear that, I know how hard it is to lose one of these awsome corals. Mine did make a full recovery from the dosing of Mirovert , and seems to be growing now.

So the tenticals are supposed to be reallly long?

not overly so but fairly long, and have color, the above pic has no coloration and is in my opinion not healthy, it may be on the road to recovery but is not healthy currently.

Hi Guys,

Here's some before and after pics of my Elegance.

I got it in about August last year and about Feb this year it suddenly appeared like this. I thought it was just sulking like so many other corals can, but it has lost all those lovely tentacles.

Are these the same symptoms the other Elegances have exhibited? Do you think mine can pull through/recover to its original glory. Any tips for helping it achieve this. There has been no real deterioration in its conditon for 3 months now. It is still living but for how much longer I do not know.

Regards,
Clinton

Did the tread split or has there really been no new posts since May 2006?

If the thread had split, there would be a link to the rest of it here. Fact is, before you, nobody has posted here since May.

Eric B left RC. I believe he has continued the research, but does not update here. He has the corals that were sent to him for research. I have not heard any updates on the research for some time.

There were two ways to donate money when we were trying to get this going. One, was off of this thread through PayPal or a check sent to me. Eric submitted receipts for some of it, which I reimbursed. The rest is still in a separate account for the Coral Elegance Project waiting for Eric to resume the research and submit receipts for what he's spent.

The other way to donate was off of another thread through RC. That money was sent to Eric and that's what he used for the initial research. Those funds never came through me and I cannot answer for them, but I know Eric did do a lot ... at least for a while .... and was paying for lab tests as such.

I have been kind of wondering at what point I need to come back to all the people who donated through me and see if we need to just pick a good reef conservation organization or something to donate the funds to if Eric isn't going to do anything with the research.

All I can tell you for now is that the money that was sent to the project through me is all accounted for and unspent funds are still held safe waiting for Eric or the donors to tell me what they want to do with it.

I saw that there was a web site set up and noticed that the site was also not updated. I'm not trying to be a pita, it's just a shame as it was such a good cause.

Absolutely!

I agree and that is why I volunteered to be a part of it all. No one could be more disappointed that nothing more has come of it.

I still have hope that it will revive. But as long as its been, I think it might be time to donate the money elsewhere. It would be really hard to allocate and prorate the funds back to individual donors so if we give up, I think the best thing is to maybe take a poll on a deserving organization that is really doing something and send the money there.

I've had my Green Elegance for going on a year now, February 06. It has always thrived in my tank for one reason or another. Here are some pics:

Note: In the first few pics the Elegance was in a 225 reef. My set-up consisted only of a 40g sump with skimmer (equivilent to a Euroreef CS8-2). I recently upgraded to a 240g and transferred it over without a problem. It was fully extended in all it's glory the very next day.

What I have learned in keeping this coral is that it responds very well being close to the light
and really seems to come out in all it's glory the day after I dose Fiji Gold Coral & Live Rock Supplement.

don't have a lot of experience, but eleqance i have been around seem to do better in dirty or poor water conditions. just what i've noticed.
