not to knock youre elegance phreebsd, but that is definitly the 1st stages of the disease. I've seen it many times personally.

you can't say defiantly, mine looks like that every morning just prior to lights on and has for years. one would assume though that you'd take a pic when the coral looked at its best.

Edit: the below pic i just snapped, it's now 2 hrs before scheduled lights on time for this system. as you can see the Elegance isn't a pretty sight.

That pic was first lights on, Actinics only. It was early morning time. .

He's been in captivity for approx 10 months. Acquired from a friend.

Is this kind of thing only associated with this mystery illness? Is it ever just a "stressed out" reaction?

crap. We'll see what happens. The tentacles are short, but then I've never seen anyone's with tentacles out like I've seen on here. Guess I've never seen a healthy one in person.

You got a pic of this guy in his full splendor?

Found it on page 23. Very nice. Excellent that it dropped a bud. You'll have to give lots of updates on it. Everyone here will want to know. I'm sure it's gonna do fine. Aquacultured Elegance!
It'll be great when we get a time period when man figures out what kills the magnificent catalaphyllia and are able to aqua culture them. They are indeed a beautiful lifeform.

starting to run out of disk space in my gallery but here is a 'top down' pic i snapped just a few ago (used auto settings on cam so the white balance is off a bit), it closed up a little when i turned the pumps off, you can't get a top down view with them on the surface is disturbed and the coral is aggressively blowing.

I've had this one about a year and a half and it had been in captivity for about 3 yrs. before that. The tentacles avg about 2" long

Those are excellent. KC - awsome color! Longer tentacles I notice on both. I must say, I've never seen one in person with tentacles like these. They are always shorter.

even a very small Aiptasia Kalk injection that causes any change in pH will cause mine to quickly retract all tentacles and 'balloon' up huge, it looks horrible, i try to not do this often if i can help it :) but even at its worst it doesn't look as bad as some of the so called healthy ones i've seen trying to be sold in LFSs.
