The fish gods must be angry

August was a bad month to be a fish in my tank:(. I had a rabbit fish go carpet surfing because I forgot to close my hood one night. Really sad because I had that fish for 2 years.
My mystery wrasse lodged himself in a rock and suffocated himself. One day when I came home from work I noticed just his snout sticking out between two rocks. It appears that he got stuck in a position where the rocks were pinching his operculum and not allowing him to breath. That was my favorite fish too.
Plus, I finally got rid of my orange shoulder tang because he was just getting too big for my 90 gal. He was about 7-8in and I picked him up when he was around 3-4in. Def sad to see him go but at least it was to a nice 210 gallon tank.

The tank seems so empty now and I need to do a little restocking. Was thinking about picking up a leopard wrasse or even a pair. Anyone have experience with them? Also, want to pick up another tang but don't want something you see all the time. What do you guys think would be a good one?

Forgot to add the current fish in the tank:
Pair of black ocellaris clowns
Pair of watchman gobies
Flame angel
Yellow tang
6 line wrasse

Sorry to hear about the fish loss. Same thing happened to my sixline, being stuck in betweeen rocks and nose out.

sorry to hear about your losses Colin. check out the blue star leopard wrasse / bipartus I think is the species name. very cool leopards I have a male and female. nice fish.

For tangs a reasonable but not too crazy of a cost that's nice is an achillies tang. But its like a powder blue or worst in regards to ich. As for leopards, ask Tom how many leopards he went through. I just heard their finicky when eating frozen food.

Can I get away with an achillies in a 90gal? Maybe if I start with a small one? I'm letting Lia choose the tang and I think she might be leaning towards the achillies.

If you want a leopard wrasse, you will need to take some chances because I went through 4 before I found a good one. The trick is get to know your LFS and get it home as soon as it arrives at the store. The longer it is at the store the less of a chance it will survive. I even got mine to eat small size pellets.

Small tank for either an achillies or PB. They are fast swimmers and need to 'stretch their fins'. An 8 foot long tank would be better.

You always hear about rules in our hobby and one is 50 gallons per tang. It's a generic rule but it gets you off the hook for the tang police LoL
