Hello all, who wants to put in their two cents in about housing a Niger Trigger fish in a mixed reef tank?????? Im living it right now and besides a little urge for remodeling I haven’t had very many problems with her..... well I maybe missing a few hermits :eek1:

Mine is turning into a PITA. He sneaks up and bites my tangs, carries stuff around and deposits it where he sees fit, and it a nightmare for the snails. Haven't seen any hermit damage except carrying them around a lot. I think they are too small to bother with. I love this guy and have no plans to get rid of him right now and really he's no meaner than my Sohal...

The main thing he does to make me mad is biting the other fish. He seems to do it for fun as he bites them and then takes off really fast and they chase him. All my tangs are big enough to beat him up and I havent seen any injuries to them. He's only about 5" though so could definately become a real problem as he gets bigger.

I wouldn't recommend Niger Triggers for a reef simply because they grow rather quickly, get fairly large, and get very destructive. Here's an article on triggers as a whole:

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2007/7/fish

"...the aquarist is only faced with the challenge of dealing with the highly destructive capabilities of these fishes, and nothing is safe! This means filters, powerheads, power cords and heaters! For this reason, these items are best kept in a sump, and out of the main tank. They are also adept, (and seemingly quite fond of), overturning and moving rocks and other pieces of décor. This tendency should be taken into account when aquascaping a tank that will eventually house and adult Triggerfish."
