My AC has been keeping up, though the downstairs unit did trip the circuit breaker yesterday. We keep the house at 78. Just to keep the heat down, though (to keep things from working too hard) I cut off 4 of my 6 T5s. It's like a hair dryer outside. My tank is staying at 79.

Anyone having heat issues?
 
Yeah, my tank is running very hot right now. The hottest I have seen it.. It is at 85. Everything looks fine so far though.
 
My tank is in a below grade basement with a dedicated unit thank goodness because the upstairs AC can't keep up at all without the added heat of 4 250 watt bulbs going. Unit runs non stop from about 11 AM till about 11 PM before it gets the house cool enouph to shut off. OUCH on the electric bill!!
 
i keep my upstairs set on 80 to keep the AC from runnin all the time. It actually works out pretty good though. All 3 fish tanks stay around 79 and my snake cages are good and I don't even have to use a heater for my tarantula. I dont even have to run a heater at night for the boa because her cage stays in the low 80s/high 70s. But when winter gets here, I keep the heat around 68 to keep it from runnin 24/7. Then I usually have to bump up the heaters on the tank and add dome lights to the corn snakes and hognose and up the bulb wattage on the Boas day light and add a night heat light. Somethin' about these new houses and poor insulation.

Ever since I quit using a heater and bought a new T5 unit, my tank stays at 77 degrees with or without lights on, I was evaping 10g a week, down to less then 3g. air is set on 75, and my tank is on the other side of the house. This room gets pretty warm in the evening cause the AC is so far away and this on the west side of the house, so it gets full sun from noon to dusk but it doesnt effect the tank.
 
Some of my thermometers have been tripping their alarms (set on the high side at 80), but none of them have gotten more than about .2 higher than that.
 
AC set at 72. Ambient this time of day is 82 (need to get the buyers insurance to do something about replacing the Freon leaking unit...). Tank temps run as high as 85 for the last few weeks (VHO's 12 hrs, MH 6 hrs). Sometimes I don't even run MH. Outside temp has been in the or very near the triple digits for at least a week (I think it's supposed to reach 104 tomorrow...). Gotta get the chiller running so I can heat the house up some more. At least the fishes and corals will be happy and that's all that matters:D.
 
I suppose I should post a chiller that I am going to sell. If anyone wants it a Aquamedic Titan 1500 Chiller 1/2 hp. it is made for a larger tank but I am willing to let it go cheap enough local in TN that would be good for anyone that needs one.
 
We keep the house at 68 and my tanks been running at 76-78 with MH running on my 90 10hr day and staying at 78 isn't bad. and MH running on my 55 and staying at 77 isn't bad either. My light bill isn't too bad this month running at $230...
 
I will trade you elect bills mine is double that. Of course we keep the downstares at 65 and the upstares at 63. You know fat people hate the heat. :)
 
yea... brutal....

My reef has faired ok, maxing out at about 82, I adjusted the light cycle so the MH are off by 3pm. My FOWLR is hitting 82 as well and I am pulling the glass tops at about 2pm to keep it from getting any hotter than that.

My home AC is not keeping up, my house hits 79 by about 4pm (set at 75). I have 2 liters full of water, frozen in the freezer, I'll float em in the sump if it comes down to it.

Hope this ends soon!
 
Yeah. I have been keeping some of my lights off just to have the house AC work less hard. I keep things at 78 though -- most of you guys seem to live in freezers!

I hear you on that. Our electric bills since we moved to Alabama have been over $400 a month. The AC unit is crap, so that drives it up. The guy we bought from somehow makes a living as a home remodeler (I wouldn't buy anything he's ever done again-called his work professional. Just because you make it your profession doesn't make it professional quality, unless you really want to degrade the word professional...). It's been 82-84 in the house in the afternoons for a little while now (staying closer to 82), so it doesn't really matter where we set the cooling temp. I wish I could relax in nice 68 degree air... My Nordic blood doesn't like heat as much as cool.

Do you have a store or just a zoo?
 
SPeaking of the HEAT... My AC upstars went out Thursday. 90 at 3 Oclock :( INSIDE my house!! Talk about miserable! Thank goodness the tank was in the basement and that unit was working fine. And we were lucky a AC guy came out about 6 and for a small $250 for probably a $29.99 part we were back online :lol: I wonder how we made it before AC was invented. I know I am spoiled for sure.

I call it my home zoo. Lookin' to add more. I know I want a couple more spiders a couple more corns and probably a Burmese now I have a free wall to put a 8-10ft tank.

Temperature is still the same with my tanks, no changes.....I hate the heat!!! My parrots adjusted to my house temperature well, they don't mind the cooler temp at all. Especially my Husky, she's loving it!! :)

Cory checked online and found the part that was charged $157 for on the bill for $9.99. He googled the part name listed on the invoice and came up with hits of what looked exactly like the item he showed us that was bad so a $147 profit on the part alone not including the service call is a pretty good mark up IMO!!
