I actually have a one thats almost 3" as seen in here- http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=6607601#post6607601
Heh, yeah, from looking at their catalog I do see one at the very bottom that is 2.8" that I must've missed.

So, correction, its the SECOND meanest. :D

BTW - hahnmeister, are the powerheads that you are talking about direct drive? Do they even use an impeller magnet at all? Or do you just mean that the shaft is imbedded into the powerhead and is non-removable?

Hello all from across the pond

I have been following these threads from the start (been like 2 years now & over 150 pages :eek1: )

I have done a similar thing to the original "cut back" maxi mod to a Eheim 1060 & 1260 which have been up & running for over a year now, they both easily move far more water than the Tunze, the 1260 probably pushes out 2 to 3 times the flow of a 6100.

Now I would like to have a go at converting one to a propeller version (big tank), I also plan on running the underflow system on these fantastic little Maxi mods you have created (nice work BTW).

I have a big problem though, being that here in the UK thing's are always a few years behind you guy's in terms of parts availability & materials.

Is there a kind one among you that will take pity on the technologically disadvantaged Britt & order & send me some parts? I will gladly cover all costs?, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE as I have the tank & can't fill the thing till I implement the underflow system which is all a bit:blown:

I already have one of the mods from the chap making them on another American BB, but I want to make my own, just can't get the parts, IE -

1. Props need various sizes as I intend to mod several types of pump/prop combinations to see what works best, I have about 10 different types of old pumps (muhahar)

2. Teflon washers

3. SS shafts in 2 sizes

4. rigid air line (rare as gold plated rocking horse Pooh over here)

I wish I could post pic's of my work but this forum wont accept jpeg images

I love DIY'ing anything I can, who wants to pay for a label? BIG YOURSELVES UP BOY'S you deserve more praise for what you are doing & I for one am spreading the word here & in Greece & Russia through various friends on my local BB, keep up the good work.

A big word of warning guy's the mod I got from the states would not work on the intended 1200 (240volts at 50hz here), but after much annoyance & frustration I tried it on a 750 & it works perfectly, I think this is to do with the amount of inlet slots (insufficient - due to the extra current/power?)

I have since tested the mod on these Maxi models & they all work, even the little 150 (no longer made BTW  )

750 - 600 - 250 & 150

ps I did write a full page post to this thread about 4 month ago but the uploader wont accept my images & lost the post, so I ended up procrastinating ahrrrr

PPS, just thought how to share pic's (at last) here's a link, I will add the others when I fin them;)

yeah that gutter guard is the stuff i used. i used the zip ties to hold it tight while the super glue dried over night.

i think he is referning to the eggcrate that all the rocks will sit one. if he is using a sand bed then this woould be similar to a reverse plenum design.

I don't have a more powerful pump lying around Tim. Otherwise I would have tried it already :D

I'd be interested in seeing what that 1465 monster prop can do.

But shoot... I can't even use anything larger than 2 MJ400's in my 55g mixed tank.

You do realize that shipping overseas will be very expensive right?

FWIW Octura Models will ship internationally if you order from them directly

Octura Models Inc
(847) 674-7351
7351 Hamlin Ave
Skokie, IL 60076
USA

Everything is done through either mail or phone though and they don't accept credit cards so you would have to send a check, money order, or traveller's check.

As for the rigid airline tubing, you don't necessarily need to use that specifically. You can use styrene or carbon fiber tubes that can be found in hobby shops. Some people even use a small pen's plastic tube for this. The SS rods can also be replaced with carbon fiber rods as well as I'm not sure that you would be able to find SS rods in different sizes anyhow.

I simply contacted FunRCboats.com and asked them to special order the props I want. They said that they order from Octura 2x a month and would be happy to order them for me.

it really shouldn't be . I ship small 5-12 oz packages all over the US everyday with first class mail. On occasion i need to ship overseas and normally it is just a dollar or two more. most Ive seen was 5 bucks more and that was to some remote part of malaysia. Am small box with just a few props is prolly 3-4 oz.

got my stuff from tower today... gotta see how it turns out now... 1.75 yea.. i just gotta find a nother magnet for my 900... grrr best place to get one.. any one know?

that fish place has them for $12, but only online I tired to buy them at the store and they told me it was only a mail order product. They said that aquarium pharm. ships them right to u.

well done with my first mod.. looks horrible. but flows like crazy one 1.75 dumas on a 1200.. i only drilled holes in the slip fitting, but lots of suction i think i need a better way of hooking it up. i ended up cutting the end off the original maxi jet bottom since it fit in a 1.5 inch sch 40 pipe. used that instide the slip fitting and fit on perfect.. flows more than my seio 1500 for sure.. will probaly do way more if i can get a better houseing, only had my drill today,, table saw is a work. will try tomorrow and get some test caps to use for a better cap... i want a bigger prop on a bigger pump.. crazy flow.. yea.. ok 4 of these three 900's one 1200 and four eductors on a iwaki 100 and sequence 4200 CL with a ocean motion 4 way.. can anyone say swirling vortex of terror??? :) :) :)hehehe

so.. would putting another dumas prop on worth it .. or not really over the one prop.. two ok? read i thought that two makes the percent of effectivness go way up..
