well the kill o watt meter is on its way. so i should have some numbers for the 1200s in a little bit. waiting for the wife to get back with it. gotta love hydroponic stores, they have everything.

anyone ever fooled around with the mj1000 or 500. i saw them at the hydroponic store and was wondering what they are all about. or is it just a different box for the 400 & 900.

Tim

and the results are in.......
my voltage around the house was between 113 & 119v at 59.9 Hz
mj1200 mod pulls 19-20w one 1200 pulled 19 and the other pulled 20.
mj900 un modded 7w
seio 620 7 w
mag5 35w
QO4000 39w
Mak 4 125w
OR 3500 NW 65w pulling 15lpm air, no air 90w
2 140w VHO actinics on Coralife ballast, 200w
dehumidifier, 700w

Quite surprising on the watt draw for most items around the house. mainy the tvs that we have.

Can the 3/16 SS rod be cut with a diamond Dremel wheel?

Here are some of ways I have done this.

normal Dremel cutoff wheel, diamond cuttoff wheel, hacksaw, and wire cutter.

By far the easiest is the wire cutter then just grind down the sharp edges.

Hey Tim

You should test the wattage comparing an unmodded MJ and modded MJ and see the difference if there is any at all. I;m curious to find out.

D.

i dont think there is any difference.
maybe someone could help me out with this one though. on the meter i have a Watt as the active power of 40 and then i have a VA ( the apparent power) at 79 and then i have an amp draw at .62

so does this mean that the pump is really drawing 79w and not really 40w. since .62A is not 40watts.

also sanjays info for the 175w icecap ballast driving a iwasaki14k bulb is wrong. it draws more watts than he says. makes me rethink some of his other resluts for his tests

Tim

so if the VA is the true power draw, AMPSxVolts=watts , then the modded maxi really draws .31A @ 117v = 36.27w. a lots more than what they claim it is supposed to draw.

Tim

My Kill-a-Watt should show up this week so I'll be able to post my own numbers.

We all need to chip in and send D one so he can test the power consumption of all the different props on all the different MJ's. I'd love to know if the 2035 draws more juice than the 1435 although I bet it does.

mag5 35w

Tim
interesting, the mag 5 is rated at 45 watts
so it looks like the modded jets r sucking up more power too, who knew

ok well no one has answered which reading is the true power draw on the pump. is it the VA or the W.

doh i figured it out now. i forgot to add the fower factor into the equation. so the 39wx.55pf=19.8w draw. now it makes a little sence.

i dont see how the mag 5 is only drawing that amount of power though. maybe i am missing something when interpretting the readings

Tim

where is the cheapest place to oget a kill a watt meter?
yeh i would expect the mag5 to draw rated if not more.

i picked mine up at a local hydroponics store. was 15% off of 40$. pretty good deal IMO.

the mag5 is the circ pump for my CA reactor so it has no real head pressure and very very little back pressure on it. so that might be why it draws so little, it also chops of the CO2.
