The Infancy of My Biocube 29g

This is the beginning of my biocube. I found that the CPR backpak fits easily into the compartment where the bioballs go. I upgraded the pump for more flow and added about 30 pounds of sand and 35 pounds of cured LR. Im gonna wait for about a month b4 i add anything. I just want everything to be well established. Its a neat little tank. The big powerhead in there will eventually be removed. I just have that in there to circulate the water.

Looking good so far!! I like the amount of open space you created by the strategic rock placement. I would probably move the heater to the back though just so it is not viewable. If you already had that in the plans, ignore that advice

Is that really a BackPak? If so, how did you mod the front?

That is truely a backpak. And the heater i ordered for this is titanium i stole this heater out of my daughters FW tank lol. but the heater will go just inside the box thats houses the overflow. Thanks for the comments.

Jeff, this CPR is made specifically for the BioCUbe. There are no mods necceary. It even came for install direction for the biocube. I was shocked. But yes it is a CPR.

I like the rock design, just out of curiosity what made you choose that tank size, since I've gotten back into salt I've noticed more of these cube's and nano's. Just wonderin out load.

well, i chose this because i liked the sleek design coupled with the look of the stand and everything being inclusive. I dont need a large tank because im going to use it as a grow out tank and house a few sea horses for my kids. Plus ive maxed everything out on my MT so i need something else to spend money on. Im even in the process of looking for a 300g. I get free electricity on base (air force) so i might as well exploit it.

Cool. I just looked it up. It's actually a new skimmer model - the CPR SR3.

Your aquascape looks good.

I'm also thinking of starting a nano but could not decide on the tank size.

I would seriously go with the 29g because the footprint isnt much bigger than lets say the 14g. Its taller and a bit wider but i think its worth it. They say bigger is better..well my gf does anyway, so i dunno. I went with 29g cuz i wanted more room to grow stuff and less chance for things to go nuts on me being a larger tank. Hope this helps. Thanks man! I enjoy it (sometiems) i only have 2 years left until retirement. Been to the middle east 7 times to many. But I did it so nobody in my family had to. I've seen things that a grown man shouldn't have to see, but i believe it was the right thing to do. Thanks for your support, it does not go unoticed.

Yes 7 times. 4 months minimum each time. Longest i was over there at one time is 8 months. and they were 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week with no overtime.

BTW I like the aquascape on the cube. Makes the tank look deeper (front to back) then it really is!

PC, you say you upgraded the pump for more flow. The BC pump? Was it necessary? Does the SR3 affect the flow through the chambers? Any issues/concerns so far?

I’m thinking about that same skimmer for my bc29.

There was no pressing need to upgrade the flow but the stock pump is 243gph and i upgraded to a 400 because i am splitting the return with a Y so i can have one return going behind the LR and one jetting out to the front of the tank to in effect force all unfiltered water to do a U turn and go into the overflow. THe Sr3 has a nill effect on the flow. I am 100% pleased with it.
