the leak . . . .

Well, I am knee deep in our worst nightmare. 220 gallon glass tank with a leak in a corner seam. I am losing about 3 gallons a day.

has anybody effected an underwater repair ? The leak is only about 8" from the bottom, so draining isn't an option.

I would even accept a somewhat temporary fix while I try to weigh replacement options.

Thanks,
- Rick

That's a bad leak. I would think even a repair will only be temporary. Maybe just put some caulk on the outside while you setup a new tank?

Send Gary Majchrzak a pm. He had a leak in his 225 not long ago, although if memory serves, his was slower.

As others have already said, your tank is a ticking time bomb and I strongly recommend installing a clamp on the tank immediately before the seams burst and you have a disaster on your hands.

Other than that, you can get an inexpensive horse troff or hydroponic tray to hold your livestock while you figure out a replacement. Good luck!

thanks for all the advice. the "time bomb" comment got me moving. All rock and livestock is now in the 300g sump in basement.

You're doing the right thing. No one wants to have to do this, but the inevitable WILL happen. Again... best wishes!!!

I can't even imagine what you are going through right now...I thought it was bad enough when I had the bottom glass of my 30 gal crack 2 minutes before I walked out the door for dinner....with no back up plans, dinner was cancelled, all the occupants in the tank went into buckets and I had to get a loaner tank from the LFS until they could replace the tank that cracked.....you're definitely doing the right thing by taking care of this now before you end up with 200 gal of water in your house :( Good luck with everything!

to repair such a leaker you would

to repair such a leaker you would

empty the aquarium, strip away all old silicon and re-silicon the glass panels.
