Does anyone have any gracilaria (sump grown/personal stock) in the BHAM area?

I saw some of this at PetCo in decatur for 2$ a big bundle. I did not know anything about it. Is it photosynthetic, and does it make a good macroalgae sump plant? I am going back up there soon so if that is a good price and it would do well in my refugium I would like to pick some up.
