zoa, any meaty lps... it's pretty random. for me SPS was fine. they left leather alone too

I recently came across a healthy specimen at my LFS and decided to buy. It is rather on the large size and dwarfs the other fish in my tank. System (90 gallons) has been up for 3 years. My wife and I are planning an upgrade to a 220 now that we have a fish large enough to require it.
It is eating frozen krill, marine algae mix, misis, sheets of nuri, and anything else it can pick off the rocks. Seems interested in a green galaxia coral I have but has left a kenya tree, green zoas, green star polyps, and my hammers alone.

Anyone have experience adding a MI as a last addition to an established 300g tank that has an adult emperor angel and some tangs including a hippo, yellow, purple and powder blue? Curious how they handle themselves when initially added.
They are timid and essentially defenseless. After they get established they become a little more bold, but really this is a fish that cannot be allowed to be bullied. Best to make sure he is protected - maybe an acclimatization box. If they get bullied, they won't last long and probably will probably not recover even if the bulliers are removed.

Thanks for the feedback pinnatus. I'm really contemplating attempting one, they look gorgeous. "If" I do, maybe I put an eggcrate in the tank and divide it up for a few days to let him adjust. any feedback on how to qt them? I usually do TTM with two 10g tanks and then move to 30g for observation before they go into the main tank. any advice or suggestions?

The MI I had got along well with 2 Yellow tangs,I had,in a 220.A healthy MI is always on the move,they crave space to swim,they never stop(your Tangs will get tired of trying to keep up with it)My advice is to buy one already eating at the store,then buy the fish and the food.It will probably appreciate a 300 gallon aquarium and as long as it has a lot of LR and food,getting along with your present fish community looks good.When I purchased mine I didn't quanteen , because I wanted to get it settled quickly into an environment with reef already in place,to minimize the amount of stress it was going to encounter.It did well,and became very dominating ,in my 220.It had a great appetite,and was my pride and joy.I sold it after a year,because I relocated to another area(my aquarium was moved but not set up for 6 months).They do require excellent water conditions.

He is in a tank with some angels including an emperor angel that occasionally chases him around but nothing life threatening.
Definitely make sure the idol is eating at the store before buying and even then it is 50/50. I was fortunate enough to buy one that was eating omega one flakes and now he eats all types of pellets. Only had him for 3 months now but i'm optimistic about this one.

I had mine for 8 years. Over the years I had to remove a couple of fish that bullied the idol, or simply out competed it for food. I had an Asfur Angel that always was chasing the Idol. I had a French Angel that ate the food so fast the Idol could not get enough. (Idols don't eat much at a time, so they need to eat a little all day long if possible.) Both fish were removed. I don't remember any real trouble with tangs and the Idol, though.
It was my favorite fish. Full of personality, always swimming about, and beautiful. Such a great fish. Too bad they have such a poor survival rate. It also out lived several ick outbreaks and some other diseases that took out many other fish in my system. So really, not as delicate as you might believe.
If you have a reef, though, it is probably not reef safe. It ate all my zoanthids.

I picked up this 6" MI yesterday, hoping I can rehab him/her. They had it for a few months, but the other tangs & MI's beat it up, it was in a 600 gal. QT vat at my reputable LFS. His fins are nipped up pretty good as you can see plus it's missing it's left eye.
When I brought it home, yesterday he was staying in one corner, but this morning he's swimming all over. Can anybody tell if it's a male or female?

did you introduced your two MIs at the same time or separately?
Have they ever fought with each other? If so - how long before it subsided?

aggression is present, they are already the third month. but I think it will soon be gone. know the person he keeps two for about three years. he said that too long fought. need a strong to transplant denelco in SAMP. I now fight almost gone, but sometimes they fight.
