We need mods here for the 24 AquaPod from someone.

"The Female" is buying one soon I believe, and I can't keep my hands off anything. ;)

Hello ... I am writing to let you guys know that the Digital Timer in my design has burnt out the same capacitor twice in 6 months ... Make sure you keep your receipt so you can return/trade for a new one at Osh. You can also use an analog one ... I tried. However it doesn't give you the flexibility and precision a digital does. You can also use a coralife power center digital/analog to power this entire system ;)

Note to Float Switch users in Sumps ...

IF you have an Urchin be advised that they can chew threw the plastic protective cover of the wiring the float switches have ... I discovered this when my friends strawberry urchin ate through the plastic and exposed the wire ... Danger Danger!

Hey Chocolate..
So in your system, the timer turns on at a predetermined time for a predertimined duration of time.. There is no float switch turning something on to top off. I assume you have a pretty predictable amount of evaporation.

My questions are based on your picture that you posted.

I would think you would almost HAVE to use a digital timer to have the necessary precision and adjustment capabilities, which you don't really have with an analog..

Yes I do have a predictable amount of evaporation ... but so do many others ... sure it changes seasonally due to weather or room warming if you don't have A/C so you just add/deduct another minute to each cycle and Ta Da! If you have A/C well then you almost never have to touch the timer. I have no A/C so I lose 5 gallons per week every summer and 2.5 gallons per week during other seasons so I just ran the system into another 5 gall. jug and timed how long it took to empty/transfer and divided the time out over the week. I programmed the timer to do most topping during day when their is the most amount of heat/equipment use.

That's exactly what I said "You can also use an analog one ... I tried. However it doesn't give you the flexibility and precision a digital does." If you are merely topping off well then an analog still works however if you are topping off/dosing calcium in your top off then you need more precision with a digital timer ... it's easy to dose just figure out your weekly calcium consumption if you are losing the entire jug per week and add that calcium in.

Remember you can run the top off for even an hour with an analog timer just turn down the pressure your AIR PUMP is making so instead of the water flowing out of the tube it'll just drip. You have lots of flexibility with this system as long as you get a pump that has that wheel adjustment. If you want super flexibility/programmability for days down to the min. then get the digital timer but keep your RECEIPT. Otherwise you can get a Coralife Digital Power Center, which I am considering if this digital timer breaks again.

I'll let chocolate give you the official word, but my bet is that he's gonna tell you that's the lid to the water container.

It's a jug cap ... you people make me laff! Brvheart has the right idea!

... I had to show a way of how the rest of the air-hosing is connected to the cap in order for it to pressurize and top off correctly, because as you can see some hoses go all the way down and some just past the cap. It Wouldn't hurt to put all of them all the way down but every time you top off it would make a bubbling noise :eek1:

Anyone else found any decent DIY skimmers or ways of skimming a nano tank? I'm thinking of starting a nano tank and I want to have a cheap option for skimming...
