The Nano

70W MH would be best. They make the 70W current USA sunpod fixtures in 16.5" and 20". I have 2 of the 150W 20" versions and they are awesome.

The pictures I took up above were under a 96W PC. A 150 W MH would work too. I had a 250W DE MH on a 2 gallon recently. As long as you separate it far enough it won't cause any heat issues. I'm sure T5s could probably work too.

I think it's really up to how much you're willing to invest and what fixture makes you happiest.

If you want to do SPS, for an external pump I would consider something like a couple MJs on a wavemaker or even a Quiet One 1200. Just depends on how hard core you want to go with all this. It'll be a lot of equipment sticking out the back, soyoumay consider drilling through the bottom.

My last nano was 2 gallons and had a 300gph pump on it, plumbed through the bottom. Here is all the ugly looking gear:

And the finished product, with the equipment all concealed in the stand:

There's a thread here on RC of a guy who did this using a canister filter, which he added carbon and a heater to. I was much happier with the look of this tank than any other nano I've had.

man those are some nice nano's. i sold my 55 when i moved out to the bay and just started 2 nano's. a 6 and a 12. not much in there but i just picked up a pair of black and white percula's. hope i can get my nano as stocked as the ones in the pics.

Hmmmn that is an interesting looking contraption....

Where did you find all the parts for it and how much it cost you to make?

Are you talking about the plumbing picture?

A breakdown.
2 thread by thread bulkheads--2x$5.99
2 thread by thread ball valves--2x$3.99
2 thread by thread unions--2x$3.99
4 asstd hose barbs--4x$.99
Quiet One 1200 pump--$35
Hydor Flo flow through heater--$45
asstd vinyl hose and clamps--$3

So around $115 total. It's much more expensive than just throwing a pump and a heater inside the tank. It's completely worth it IMO though. If I had to do it all over I'd just buy the smallest available canister filter and plumb that through the bottom. I just don't know if I'm entirely happy with the flow put out by the pumps on some of those .

All this stuff is available at my ACE in Davis. The bulkheads aren't available at all ACEs but the rest should be.

Oh yeah, I didn't include the portion coming off the white PVC tee. That was the feed line from a dosing pump.
