The new nano...

gem

Totally over it
I won a 14 gal oceanic bio-cube at BAYMAC. Which was convenient, because I needed something to mess with until I can get back to working on the 110 again. I had sand left over from my 24 gal and basically....there's nothing I really have to go out and buy to get it started...so here it is. (The heater in the corner is temporary....it doesn't fit in the chamber...too long.) Ok...so that's one thing I need to buy. Sure I'll find more.

yeah yeah thomas....I meant "for now" LOL
I'm actually going to put my Mantis in it. she has been living in my refugium for a couple months now.....only reason I know she's still there is I hear her now and then.

Other than the mantis.....lots of zoas and LPS. If a fish...maybe one REALLY fast one. :D

LOL I thought I'd put a shark in there. Heard they need lots of swimming room. ;)

Rock tomorrow. :D

Nice. I love my 8g Bio Cube. The center chamber in back makes a great fuge, I have a bit of chaeto in there. It gets enough light from the hood. The stealth heater works well for me. These are great plug and play tanks.

Sheila....you're the second one that suggested a fuge in the middle chamber. I even got a link for a light for it. But have one question....the water level in the second chamber is very low. Tank has markings on the side by the pump chamber Max and min for water levels. Is that small amount of water enough for chaeto? Or should I overfill the tank to raise the water level?
As for a heater, I looked at the stealth 50 watt and even it seems a little long. That heater measures about 8 3/4 in. The depth of the first chamber is about 8 1/4...but I think with the height of the lid that one should work.
Thanks = )

ginger - i have the bc8. have a stealth heater in the back where the first chamber with the filter. regarding the water level - ignore it - fill it up. that said, you will need to drill holes in the 2nd chamber cover to get sufficient light thru. the submergible light will hang from this cover also. you need to call me.

since the mantis is going in there - will there be much rock or coral?

Kenny - I'm having second thoughts about the mantis going in there now, actually. The sand I used was rinssed sand that I had in here last tank. I had to spend almost an hour sifting out chunks of snail and hermit crab shell and pieces of rock from her demolition sprees. Made the sand look dirty. Looks much better now.
I'm thinking lots of zoas, acans, other sofites and lps now.

Thanks for the clarigfication on the water level.
I'll call you sometime this week and you can talk me through some of the stuff you mentioned earlier.

i'm at your 'beck and call' - whenever you want to discuss - i'm all yours!

What he said. Fill it up. I think they have that water level to support a freshwater setup with wet/dry and bio balls. It's much quieter with the level up higher. I don't have an additional light, maybe the 14 is different but enough light gets reflected/indirect lighting back to the fuge area in my 8.

ya I also have an 8.

They are really good little systems to have and enjoy.

I hope you like yours

And yes they are....but not as free as they appear usually. I got a free horse once......she cost me a couple grand in vet bills in a couple months. :D
