The not so much of a "build" 40 Breeder

The LED bug finally bit me. Added a single 453nm Panorama Module to my existing T5's expecting to get some more pop and maybe some shimmer. Pretty (and happily) surprised that I got quite a bit of shimmer out of the deal. In fact I even shimmer on the sandbed with all 4 T5s on. Color is a rich blue with a bit more purple/red than I have seen in some LEDs.

Had to figure a way to mount it over an open top so I rigged this up. About $4 in PVC later came up with this. Used PVC "snap T's" for the feet which I had never seen before. Very happy with how it came out and it is very safe and sturdy. The other option I was considering was screwing it right into the front of my fixture but I'm gladd I didn't.

Few other random pics. I'm sure the color is way off in the pics as my camera is crappy.

Stopped by a local reefer's house and picked up a couple of $5 frags.

Birdsnest that needs to color up but I have seen the colony it came from. Should be a purple with green tips on the polyps.

And some blue zoas with yellow skirts. These seem to have two layers of very pointed skirts almost like a paly. Really bright blue and yellow though.

W-O-W. Really nice! I love the blue that the bulb combo gives the water...and you have a bleeding apple...color me jealous! Following along for sure! What's with the nem? It was huge before...

Thank you. The bleeding apple was under LEDs at MACNA when I got it and I have wanted to add some LED supplements ever since. Still like the T5's too and I feel it's a good combo.

The carpet anemone that I had didn't make it :(. The one you see in it's spot is a rock flower nem that was on the other side of the tank and I just moved it there to fill in the void. Losing that carpet was a big hit. I put a lot into research and rearranged the tank for it. To top it off, it was a really healthy looking nem and it died under my care.

Thanks again for the compliments!

Got a PM asking about how my tank is setup and I guess I hadn't updated anything since I removed the HOB filter I started with.

Replaced the HOB filter with an overflow box and a 20H sump. That little AC filter served me well for over a year but a skimmer was something I had always lacked.

Used an eshopps overflow with a Hoffer Gurgle Buster (which works very well by the way)...

That goes to a reverse durso in the sump (pipe diameter increases from 1" to 1.5"). This also works very well (no jacuzzi or burping in the sump)...

Decided on a SWC120 for the skimmer. Wanted it in my drain line chamber but it would not fit with the durso (something I didn't account for). Also wish I could have fit a larger sump but not much else would fit that was standard.

Using a Sicce return pump which is much quieter than the Mag5 I originally bought and it has an adjustable output (also using a ball valve).

I also removed the two K2s and got another Evolution 1050 so I only had 2 PHs in the tank. Would love a MP10 (maybe one day)...

Few other shots just because :)...

Picked up my first wrasse today! MY LFS has had 2 melenarus wrasse for a little overa month. He ate quite a bit a few hours after introducing to the tank and about 15 minutes before the lights went out he dove into the sand. Such a cool fish.

Impossible to photograph!:)

Haven't updated in a little while but added some things today so figured it would be a good time.

Meet the twins, "fun" and "gia" :)...

THe one on the right is orange with purple tips but of course I can't capture that with my phone

Orange torch. This coral is about as electric orange as I have seen yet every pic I take is brown just dull!

Yet another really crappy FTS (sorry all I have is my phone camera)...

There is also an Aurora goby and a red stripe pistol shrimp in there but I'm sure I won't see them for weeks, although I did coat some PVC "T's" in sand and rock rubble and buried those up front in hopes they like those spots. You can kind of see them around the acans at the bottom of the tank in the middle. I'll get some pics as soon as they show themselves.
