I got my close-up kit for my Rebel XT today and snapped a few shots. This is by no means a replacement for the F/2.8 100mm macro lens that I'm going to order but still fun to play around with. Let me know what you think.
I want to see what I can do with the 100mm macro too But for like $15 these close-up kits are fun to mess around with. Hopefully I'll snag a real macro lens in the next few weeks.
Those pics are quite good. I'm not sure if you're going to see much difference once you've resized for the web. What lens did you use with the close-up filters, 18-55?
Here is the kit that I got. You just screw them onto the end of the lens depending on how much "zoom" you want. The problem is the subjects need to be CLOSE to the lens for them to work and the depth of field is really narrow. The Ricordia was about an inch from the lens and I used the +10 and +4 for this shot. The picture was only resized to post here, the Ric filled the frame.
As long as your camera has threads you should be good to go. My Rebel XT uses 58mm filters. My old Kodak, non-DSLR, had an adapter that screwed on that allowed me to use 55mm. You should be able to find something that works
I just picked up a canon 30d. Should be here Friday. It should be threaded. Do you know the name on the kit or maby a place to look for a kit. I also want to get the 100 macro but have to get the money first. Reef tank keeps taking all my money LOL. Thanks
Just do a search on ebay for 58mm close up, you'll see 'em. I paid $15 plus $8 shipping. Just make sure you get all four of the filters. Some people skip the +10 one. And I also am talking to someone local about his 100mm macro Too much fun. Hopefully I'll have that next week.
Thanks for the info. Good luck getting the 100mm. It is a nice lense. I want to get one but I am trying to get my 90 gallon set up and stocked. I wonder what would happen if you use the 100mm with this kit. LOL super macro pics. Thanks again

Just to be clear- the camera itself won't be threaded for diopters, the end of whatever lens you will be using will. I always buy filters that are 77mm. That way i can use them on the larger bore lenses as well as the smaller ones (with step-down rings). If you buy a filter smaller than the filter size for a particular lens, you can use it with a step-up ring, but you'll be cropping the center of the photo so there's no vignetting.
The 30d comes with the same lense as the rebel xt. I also have a 75mm to 300mm zoom lense that is threaded. It should be here this friday so maby I can try to get some pics up soon.
Interesting on the filter size. I didn't know it was better to get larger filters and use adapters to the lens itself. PCIALF, it just takes a little time to get used to the camera. Do you use RAW? I would read the sticky at the top of this forum for tips on better shots. And here is a current FT shot:
