The race is on!!!!

I pre ordered a JBJ nanocube 28 gallon, and shipment has been delayed several times already. I cannot order the package untill I am set up. They say the revised shipping date is the first or second week of May. Here lies the dilema. Will I be ready before the May 15th cutoff date? Will I be able to get part 1 and part 2? Just part 1? Will I be too late to order untill July? This sucks.
I guess this will just add to the excitment. All I know, is that I hope I can at least come up with part 1 before the time limit. If not, I will be patient, as I think TBS is the only way to go. As I said, the race is on!!!

Probably part 1. And you will have to wait for part two until July. But there is still a lot of cool stuff in package 1 that is fun to watch.

Hi Scowiii

If that is the way it shakes, I think I could live with that. I have been interested in this rock for many years and I wish I would have started with it in the past. Good things are always worth the wait
Regards

Yeah i had tbs bookmarked in my computers for the last 8-9 years finally got my tank and the package. Well worth the wait. :)

Chuck,

You could get part 1 now, put it in a plastic tub with some power heads and a simmer and let it cure until your tank arrives. That would put you on target to order part 2 before the cutoff.

Wow, that might work, I imagine if I put the live sand in there, and left the bag open it would be okay, I don't have any light for it tho, you think that would cause problems? How long would everything keep like that? I am afraid that there will be another delay on the aquarium setup. I will have to give this some thought. Thanks for the idea ybenormal. Chuck T

Also think of this:

the more time you spend letting "Part 1" mature the more time you can take to allow the critters in it to grow and fill the sand bed and rock with pods, worms, micro stars etc...

and to catch crabs etc...

only bad things happen fast... go slow, cultivate a good base of micro critters....

Excellent advice figuerres, I have decided to let things play out as they will. I guess I really hate to rush things as I have been waiting about 10 years to set up another reef tank. The last one ended in a very bad crash, and broke my heart in the process. I have learned much since then, and want to do the best I can for the critters as I really feel responsible for their fate. I will do what it takes to have a " happy tank ". Thanks to all for the response.

If you have waited 10 years. Another 3 months is not going to hurt ya. :)

I'm just having fun watching part 1 atm. Were finding more and more stuff as the time goes. My tank is ready for part 2 but im going to wait another week before I get the second part. Plus I have Cub Scout camping this weekend and don't want my wife to have all the fun while we are gone. :D

Here we are, several months later, and still no tank!

Actually, they are starting to trickle in, and I am told mine will ship around the end of july. ( I hope). All I can say, is this thing better be worth the wait.
While I have been waiting, I decided to set up a 10 gallon "bad boy" tank. I got 15lbs of rock from the lfs. After the cycle, I put 3 blue damsels in there just so I had some bio-load. All three had disapeared within 24 hours. I mean without a trace.
I looked everywhere, inside the tank, and out. Gone!!! Needless to say this drove me nuts, so I started really observing this rock, and found a rather flat streamlined crab. He promptly vanished, never to be found again. Looking close one night wearing a magnifiyer, and red light, I saw what looked like a set of antennae coming out of a hole in the rock. I put a piece of shrimp on a stick, put it close to the hole, and in a blur it was gone.
I have done this many times since, and this little bugger is fast. He won't come out under light. I have been trying to get a photograph, but have not been fast enough. I believe that this is a rather odd mantis called a "velcro mantis". He has a solid black mark across his upper back.
So, for all of you worried about what comes as hitchhikers on TBS, rest assured, they can come on rock from any source. Now my hermits are biting the dust, all with a neat round hole thru the shell. I have named my buddy "The Shadow". I wonder how he will fare against the TBS badboys when they finally arrive.
I will keep you all posted, and I will eventually be succesfull with a pic, It's just a matter of time.

Good luck to ya, Chuck!

I've had part 1 of TBS since May 16th and, like scowiii, am having a ball watching and id-ing new things all the time! The mantis that came in on the LR is mellow compared to yours. He has taken care of almost all of the gorilla crabs for me, though.

Keep us posted with updates, please! And pics of any kind are welcome...mantis or otherwise!

--hi scowiii, how have u been? Do you know when Richard is getting back? I'm gettin' really, really excited to see what comes in on part 2!

Hey, He is back but give him a few days to deal with Jet lag and the "airplane cold" you get from long flights ....

I am sure he will be posting soon to tell us when he has a fresh load of stuff to ship :D

i know what you mean moseynme i got my part 1 5/31, just in time before richard went on vacation which I was so lucky and grateful to get before he left . i know he has got to be exhausted from all the fun and excitement of his travels, bless his heart i cant imagine how tired he must be :beachbum: i cant wait to see all the pics and even more I cant wait to see what part 2 has in store for me, i am like at kid at christmas  anyway got to give susie some quality time with richard, i know she has missed him. besides, no doubt richard will make it worth my wait

Hear, hear!! I have been thrilled that Richard was having such a good time on his trip. He works so hard and brings so much joy to others...it's been great to see him get some R&R finally! And good eats, too - every time he posted, I'd have to have some seafood myself! :D

I'm anxious for part 2, but not in a hurry by any means...I found 3 more crabs last night that have to go! Between the mantis and the traps they don't stand a chance :hammer:

Any luck with the pics of your mantis, Chuck? Are you going to keep 'Shadow' in the bad boy tank or try to trap him? I can't decide about my lil' guy....

I will try again for the pics this weekend. I think Iwill keep him where he is, as this is exactly what the tank was set up for. Anything that I can trap out of my TBS rock that I don't want to keep in the main display will join him in the badboy tank.
I really have a problem with flushing any lifeform no matter how nasty or ugly they are, as I feel responsible for them once they are under my roof. Of course if they want to "off "each other in the "bad boy" tank, that's up to them, nature at work and all that sort of thing.
I feel as if I have been waiting forever for the JBJ to get here, at least I have something interesting to watch untill I get my display tank set up. I will try to post a pic of this little devil in a day or two.
