it seems corals are finally recognized in the IUCN's red list of endangered species in risk of extinction.

It appears to be only 10 coral species native to the Galapagos Islands, not all corals in general.

I was so surprised with the amount of cardinal fishes being taken out of the wild yearly....

Banggai cardinalfish; a single decade of hunting for the aquarium trade has brought numbers down by an astonishing 90%

The article actually does not blame climate change for the majority of the rapidly declining animal populations. It's more about habitat destruction, hunting, lack of clean water (we all know what that does to a tank), and also adds climate change to the list.

You can argue about climate change if you like, but there are many reasons why this is happening.

Most of this stuff has been caused by humans.

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.
- Benjamin Disraeli

we went through the same thing in glamis, where I go dirt bike riding. one particurlarly wet year the tree huggers went out and counted the Fletcher's milk vetches, 5 years later, during a drought, in July they went and re counted them and have been petitioning to have them added to the endangered species list ever since so they can shut down our sand dunes. they only mention the several square miles where they grow in California, but neglect the thousands of square miles they grow in Mexico...
