the RO/DI is ON - let's fill this badboy!!!

i think you should make an advanced plenum wasting system
basically like what you have only with small drain lines to drain out gunk
do a search on it
at least if you put it in you can use it either way
seemed like a really cool idea
and i think his water params were dead on the guy drianed like a quart a day

so - monday night, i added my crushed coral.

yesterday, i added this chunk i've been saving in a bucket in the garage fer awhile...

and today i picked up some baserock

i plan on adding some of my substrate from the 55g to the 110g soon. after this puppy cycles, we'll see how bare the 110 will be with ~95lbs of LR... the Wife has demanded we get a hippo tang. if we do this, i plan to take the yellow tang back to C&S or sell here so i can later add a different tang in the zebrasoma (??) group - as i've read they are the most aggresive - last to put in tank... i've been eyeing both the redsea tang and even more so, the sailfin tangs... Anyway, two tangs would require A LOT more swimming room - so it may be best for me to aquascape with the thought of two large fish swimming around

Before you think about drilling the tank, you want to be POSITIVE that the sides are NOT tempered glass. I'm 2 for 4 on glass tanks so far....successfully drilled a 29g and a 75g, shattered two (unknowingly) tempered 55's :(. I have diamond hole saw bits for a 1" bulkhead and a 3/4".

i think i'm going to just leave my tank un-drilled.

the other night, i took all the rock out of my 55g that had little/no coral growth on them - and put them in the 110g. i also put ~5lbs of my 55g's subtrate and added it to the 110g. i took some xenia frags i had in my sump and chucked them in there as well. i plan on moving another 10lbs or so of substrate later - just to make sure i really kick the cycle off right.

this is my 55g now...

aww, poor 55 gallon :( haha. also, the joes juice worked good, when do you want me to bring it back to you?

don't worry about it - keep it on hand for another week or so in case you get any more popping up... i'm sure we'll meet up again sometime - it's no rush.

ok...
sept 11th will be the 1-month mark as far as "seeding" the tank goes...
i've probably transfered a good 1/3 of my 55's substrate into the 110. i had no idea there was that large of a bristleworm population down there! :) there was a LOT of nastiness in all of that, so i did this over a 10 day (or so) period only taking about 3-5lbs each day. the other day, i went ahead and moved rock that only had "expendable" coral growth on it (some brown buttons and red shrooms) on in there. 4 days later, they don't look too hot - but they are alive - so i assume once i move my lights over this tank, they'll return to their original luster.
at the moment the 55 looks more like a frag tank at an LFS than the REEF i had before :( ...
this weekend, i plan to move one of the pendants over the 110... but i'll do some more thinking about how i want to place them fer a bit (i'm trying to EASE the effects of the glass centerbrace as much as possible)
i've got both tanks to the same temp and SG - but i'll have my water tested at both LFS for all the other measurements
this will all be a countdown to the week of the 18th... when i use 5 days vacation time (4 of these days BY MYSELF) :smokin: I HOPE to have the transfer complete by then (even have the 55 gone as well).
i bought a set of three locks and one key http://www.onestepahead.com/jump.js...oogle&cm_cat=Top100&cm_pla=Top100&cm_ite=null
the set up was a breeze (and i've got NO wordworking skills)
i bought two of these http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Black-8-Cha...hZ007QQcategoryZ29942QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
and a 200w
http://www.commodityaxis.com/ProductData.aspx?id=64
which i plan to have face flush-mounted (i hope you know what i mean) behind a wood panel on the left-hand cabinet space under the tank - so i have a rockin' control panel (like capt kirk would have) :smokin:

thanks for the inquiry, Freeman!

cool man might want to test the water before you move anymore sand as "stuff" builds up in the sandbed
but if thr corals in the 55 are good then you are probly ok

on monday, i put one of my lights over the 110. within a matter of hours, the few "expendable" softies i had put in earlier had already perked up! i took this as an indication that the tank's params were satisfactory
so, yesterday morning, i decided to move some corals on in - to see how'd they do... and by night ended up going ahead and moving everything. :smokin:
the corals were transplanted by 4pm - and i had all of my fish and one large CBS drip acclimated and in the 110 by 9pm. I've spent most of this afternoon looking for the TINY hermits in my 55g before i drain it.
at the moment, i have no sump. i think the 30g i used for my 55g's sump will fit under my stand - if not, i'll get a a rubbermaid tub that will work. i need more flow in that tank, for sure! i need a good pump that i can mount almost 5ft lower than the tank - and it'll be connected to a SCWD. i am still considering buying a tunze wavebox - but a may wait to see what the nanostreams will be capable of...
i'd also like to get up OVER the tank to pull the power wires for my pendants through the ceiling, behind a wall - and back under my tank (I HATE WIRES!)
so here she is a less than 24hrs of being "born"....http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/40073MVC-704F.JPG

steve, that thing looked great when i stopped by today. I"M SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!! i need to set up a power station under my 55 and work on my flow problem too!

can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve next.

Steve,
Thanks for the compliment. It's nice to hear them from people who have their own tanks... An old guy came over last fall to service my fireplace and said "looks incredible - i'd have loved to eat some acid and watch that stuff"... which i GUESS is a compliment :bum:

looking good steve
are you gonna keep it open top or are you gonna put a cap on the tank
also if you want some more rock i have some base rock in my sump i'll let you get cheap
can't wait till i get my 40g breeder done

the wave boxes look pretty sweet
have you thought about doing the maxi stream mod with the new rio wave controler coming out this might be an exelent combo for flow and wave these controlers are supposed to ramp the pump from 30 to 100% in controlable increments

i guess i am rambling keep up the good work

I am definitely going to keep it open-topped. I love looking down into the tank :smokin:
I considered attempting the MJ mod, but I still am not too confident with certain DIY skills...
I've recently added two SEIO M1100s to the tank to get some wicked flow in the tank. I thought I saw a thread on a SEIO controller - so I'm optimistic they'll eventually be available... It looks much nicer with two SEIOs doing 2200 gph instead of a handful of busted up MJs and RIOs in there doing next to nothing and using MORE power - it was starting to look like the inside of the Jawa cruiser on Star Wars in there!
I also picked up my first SPS - an Acropora sp. ... I think (not so good with the LPS and SPS names). It is a yellowish-green colored, 3/4" lil guy that I have put about 8" down from the surface. It gets plenty of flow (it's close to a SIEO) and I hope it will do well.
