The Seascape Nazis

I wen't into Seascape Aquatics today on Academy and Union, in Colorado Springs. It was absolutely horrible. The owner of the store is a complete ****head! I went in looking to buy some sand and the guy absolutely had a fit over some simple questions I was asking about the different brands and his pricing compared to Marine Depot. He told me he was getting sick of answering my questions and i was waisting his time. The store wasn't even busy, I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THERE! He told me to get out of his store if i did not support it, and waist my time with ****ing Marine Depot. How is his store still up and running with the way he treats his customers. I have never experience customer service like that in my life. I was talking to my neighbor and he told me he experienced some of the same from the guy and the lady when he went in. Has anyone else had a similar experience from those liberal A-holes?
 
Wow! I have been going to Seacsape for over 2 years now and have not had any problems with the owners. Not knowing the full story I really can not comment. I have heard some other stories about a so so customer service but I have not experienced it first hand. Sorry about your bad experience.
 
well she is always very nice to me, He is kind of a richard head, usually just glares at me and wanders off to the backroom. I think they feel the pressure of people buying online and maybe he finally snapped at you!
I think Mail order is a touchy subject and mentioning it wont make any friends at LFS around here. Now when i was at Keys in Denver we were talking about all the cool corals at various famous online coral stores. If you have good stuff and good prices you dont fear the internet, if not then you do. Thats my 2¢ in reality a lot of the stuff I buy can be found at LFS for the same money when you factor a little shipping cost. Problem is I always need more than they have or something they havent heard of yet.

I have never had the problems with seascape some others have had. I don't know what to make out of it...there are a few SCMAS members who have been kicked out of there for good. I only know one side of the story..

Jokingly, years ago at a meeting at Paninios they became known as the fish nazis because some folks were said to have been kicked out. Sort of like Yev Kasim "The fish Nazi" on Seinfeld. "No Fish for You!"

Personally I think they are nice folks..they can be a bit harsh, but maybe it is a stressful time for them or something.
 
Ditto to what Eric said, I've had no problems with them myself but maybe between the LFS (Exotics and Fishy Business) pricing plus the internet organizing us, they might be feeling the heat...

BTW, hope to meet you at the meeting on Saturday.

Most LFS really dislike people coming in and doing the "I can get it on line for X why are you so high"
That will raise there dander every time.
 
I have had some issues with Seascapes, but nothing as radical as this. My only real complaint, is they will berate any product that they don't sell, and they will sell you on something you don't need. An example of this is Joe being sold on a wet/dry system when he mentioned a sump. Most people here at RC are of the mindset that sump work better in a reef system than Wet/dry. That being said, I still go in from time to time, and I still buy from them.
 
Hmm, thats strange. They have actually talked me out of some expensive purchases there. They seem pretty fair from my newb perspective. Prices aren't outrageous compaired to other LFS in town. Any brick and mortar will lose to the Internet when you only base the experience on price. I appreciate the advise they've given me and will continue to shop there.
 
I have shopped there many a time and have no real issues. They are my neighbors too. I will talk to Sage when I see her next (walking her dog) and mention this.

i can understand that they feel the heat from online markets but i meant nothing malicious from my questions. i am a newb in the hobby so i went in looking for some advice. i just got my tank and i was going in "to buy" salt, sand and some equip. from them. i was just mentioned Marine Depot to the guy and he took it to offense. i fully support LFS and i can see how online is making buisness hard. But when someone treats a customer like that, they obviously don't care about staying in buisness.

A few observations for those that do not want to get kicked out.

1) Go in, look, buy, get out! Do not speak unless spoken to first.
2) Do not talk to him, only talk to her or the others that work there.
3) Never ask questions. If you do not know, go home and do your research then go back and refer to rule number 1.
4) If you smell alcohol on the breath of the person that you talking to, they are in a bad mood!
5) Never mention any thing about “shopping online”!
6) Bio-Balls Suck

how did you get kicked out for good? i could've possibly if i let how he was talking to me really bother me, but i just laughed it off and left.
 
Alright I was'nt going to bash those guys, but since everybody is on a roll I'll chime in.

I went into seascapes about 9 months ago, I wanted a male naso tang, why a male you ask? anybody that knows naso literatus knows the males have the tail streamers that get very long as the fish matures. The females are nowhere near as spectacular.

So anyway I see a 5 inch naso and ask her if its a female or male? (when they are small you cant tell) Her reply?

"we like to consider these guys down here (pointing to the trigger and a grouper I think) the boys, and these up here (the tangs) the girls.

Talk about funny, i was thinking, dang do I look like I just watched finding nemo and want to setup a saltwater tank and I dont know anything ???

Funny, but sad really, I wonder why you should pay them a premium for "advice" like this versus a deal on the internet with no "advice"?

BTW I had a male naso ordered by trey for like $90 its a male and its a sweet fish :)
 
Personally I think this horse has been beat to death...this issue has come up in the past and now I noticed its on the Denver forum. Folks are welcome to say whatevver they want but seriously, there comes a point and time where enough is said.

The answer...speak with your pocket books. I read where the initial poster (who I do not know) says he will continue to shop there, even after all of this banter he stirred up. This poster has 22 posts and most of them have been about seascape...it could be an agenda poster or who knows??? I look forward to meeting this person at the meeting as well...since this is an anonymous message board anyone can get a user account and say whatever they want (starting something out of nothing). Right or wrong?? I don't know but it does reflect upon the group as a whole if infact it becomes a fly by type of a poster as we have seen before.


I don't think this has been handled in the most responsible of ways...I think there is some validity to what has been said, but I also think it has gone way over the top. I read one post that was basically accusatory of one of Seascapes employees drinking. I have been in there many times and have not once smelled alcohol. It just seems to me a pi$$ and moan session that has gone down the path of gossip. This is my response to both what I have seen here and the Denver forum.
 
Good point's Eric, way to keep the group going in the right direction ;) I hope And1varsity23 shows up to the meeting also, dont feel bad about Eric scolding you! You can hang out with me, I wont hold it against you ;)

well on a forum like this its easy for the trolls to actually effect people in real life ( wich is what they want in the end)
