lol first DIY...........not by a long shot.i made my 6 way valve for the closed loop,in the process of the sump, then i can do my calcium reactor.i wont be able to finish the whole sump/fuge tonight.i still need to mill out the two walls the form the fuge area.i will mill them tomorrow and put them in tomorrow night.so only two of my 4 baffles will go in tonight.

alright the first baffle is in,you can see i used spacers(grey piece) to get equal distance from the wall i also used thin spacers(white ones) to lift the grey spacer off the acrylic.this will keep any excess glue from wicking under the grey spacer.

It looks great!

I am going to have to do some mods to my sump and I am in need of some help with re-drilling my tank overflow from 1" to 1.5" now I know where to go.:)

the second baffle just got glued in,if i only had the two other walls i could be done tonight :mad2: i think i may cut some pieces for braces around the top,but ill fill it up and see if i need them first.

You do awesome work! Does it actually save you a lot of money or do you just enjoy the DIY side of the hobby? How large of a sump is that?

yes i save alot,i doubt you can find a 32"x18"x16" sump/fuge for around $110.it works out to a little over 40 gallons total volume.most sump/fuges you see this size will cost $300 or more.here is a pic of the second baffle

here you can see how big the sump is in relation to a 90 gallon

CheckinHawk that is SWEEEEEEET! Nice job, I can't believe it's almost finished. You make it look so easy - and I know better :D

When are you picking up your stand and canopy? I recieved a email from HongKong today the bits should be in late next week. DIY is the way to go!

i get the stand and hood after work thursday.i did the required changes to my OM copy today as well.the inlet was only 1" and the dart pump is 1 1/2" so i changed that.it really isnt that hard to work with acrylic.anyone can glue this stuff,it just takes a little practice to get good solid joints.thanks for the comps all.i used 1/4" thick, with 4 walls,3 of them 11" or taller im sure it will be plenty strong.

it is really only cost effective if you have access to the machines.the labor for me is nothing cause its for me.the parts really didnt cost much,i have $8 in magnets and once i buy it $80 in the motor.so under $90 for me to make, but the 8 hours of mill and lathe time make it unrealistic for someone to have made.also im not sure mine will even work.i might have to add more magnets to it or who knows what else.i just pray that if it fails i can make it work.
