Hi, all

I'm survey the T5 lamps on my 500L SPS tanks, there are two consideration so far.
1) Giesemann matrixx ii 8x39W
2) ATI power module. 10x39W

There is no any experience sharing of matrixx ii can be found, although add fans is interesting for me. another concern which is the ballast inside the power module was changed to HEP from Philips or OSRAM, how about the efficiency or performance comparison?

anyone can share your experience of PM with HEP ballast or comments to me.

Thanks.

Thinking about switching from my AI SOL Blue's to T5's for the different colors I can achieve.

This is a hard question to answer, but can anyone ballpark the power savings between running a 6 bulb T5 fixture and LED's such as the AI Sols? I realize T5 bulbs need to be replaced time to time, but I am more interested in how much more $ per year in electricity I could expect to pay. Thanks

As all things go full circle, I am back to T5's to replace my Radion for the time being over a 60 cube (24x24x24). I will be investing in a 8x24 Sunpower and have seen the market expand with bulb selection. I have previously run the following combination of bulbs, and was wondering what a new spin would be for an SPS tank. Prefer a blue/white Radium look with growth also being important. Thanks for continuing to support this thread Grim.

ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
GE 6500K
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White

I used to run a set up very simular to yours. Hopefully you do not mind my ediding it shightly. in blue.

If you liked the color that this this combo gave you I would go with running two GE 6,500K two ATI Purple Plus and four ATI Blue Plus.

However keep in the mind that for of many this combination would look too white. Therefore some would go with the ATI Aqua Blue instead of the GE 6,500K's to make things more blue. For those desiring even a more extreme blue they would replace the GE 6,500K with an ATI Coral Plus.

Either of these combo should give you fantastic coral growth. But it is personal color choice that should make the difference for you.

You are looking at about 110~120 watts per ballast for a 2x54 watt T5 ballast so do the math. You have to include any fans in that calculation.

Don't put the purple lamp first or last but other than that give it a shot and see what YOU think. I'd maybe change one of the center purples to a Coral plus. Just play with positions and see what YOU like.

thank you so much for the reply, grim!!!
i'll will put one coral plus in one of the middle's purple

from what i read is a great bulb

Mounting an ATI Sunpower on 120 4x2x2

Mounting an ATI Sunpower on 120 4x2x2

Looking for advice on mounting the fixture. The aquatic life has very nice legs, is there something similar mount ATI? What would you use as a timer? Which bulbs in which position?

Still deciding on what type (LED, MH, or T5) of lights to get, but what do you suggest for a fixture and bulbs for a SPS dominant mixed reef tank 245 gallons 72"Lx30"Dx26"H. I looked at the Aquaticlife 12 bulb but may be took weak as its 468 watts. I do have an Neptune Apex to control the lights.

I want the best I can afford without overpaying.

Grim,
I'm stuck deciding whether to go ATI Sunpower or DIY LET kit. Im thinking about going 6 bulbs (this is going over a 40 breeder). Which path should i go? Is the DIY LET t5 kit any good/comparable to the ATI (the one from reefgeek)?

Plus is this a good combo?
GE 6500k x1
Coral plus x1
purple plus x1
blue plus x3

Im trying to avoid the super blue look and going for a whitish blue color that that doesnt wash ou the coral colors.

Almost time for new bulbs on my 8 bulb TEK. I really am wanting to try and mix in a coral plus bulb into the mix and am looking for suggestions. My tank is an SPS dominant standard 120. My current lineup is :
Front

Blue Plus
Purple Plus
Blue Plus
GE6500
Blue Plus
Purple Plus
Blue Plus

I have liked the look I have now but want to tinker. It wouldnt bother me to have en ever so slightly bluer look when all of the lights are on. Was thinking of just replacing the rear purple plus bulb with a coral plus. What would this do to my look? Bluer or whiter? I am pretty sure I would like to keep the GE6500 in the mix. Thanks!

Joe

Due to the size of your tank, the 26" depth, and being SPS dominant, I'd use MH. In my opinion, all three have their pros and cons, having MH's, T5's, and LED's would be your best option, especially if you have a canopy/hood on your tank and plan on retrofitting the lighting inside of the canopy.

Hey grim,

Ordered a new 8x54w ATI PM for a new SPS tank, im transferring all my SPS to the new tank soon but need help on what bulbs to get. Never kept SPS under t5, the SPS were under 400w radions with VHO actinic supps. I was getting good growth but the color was a little too white for me, feel like my corals could have been more colored up. Could you suggest a combo that would be a bit more blue and help acheive this?
Thanks

Just have a question here for those who have the ATI T5 fixtures.....
Have you ever experienced your fixtures rusting on you since they are made of Aluminum?
