Well, no. A 10k looks like a 10k, yellowish white. 3x Blue Plus and a Purple Plus will look like a deepwater blue with intense color pop. They will look nothing alike at all. If you're referring to achieving coral growth, then there are far more complicated answers. Look at Mike's post on page 146 post #3642. Then read Dennis' post on page 147 post #3651. They explain the differences in bulbs, color peaks, blackbody radiator color temperature, etc. There's a lot to lighting as we use it. But to put it very simply: corals need blue light to grow. They don't really care about green, yellow, orange, and to an extent, red, and purple. But those colors make them look good to our eyes, so we use them as well.
