The T5 Q&a Thread - split

Ok, I will be buying ATI bulbs (8) what is the optimal config for -

Acan/brain, Torch, trumpet/Candy cane, hammer and a few sponge coral....

I think what you list is a good bet but the fact the coral plus is advertised to have 10% purple it might be a little too pink. Hopefully ATI did their homework and it will balance well with a purple plus but there are not guarantees.

No guarantees indeed. So would one of these two options be a little more safe?

2 Blue Plus, 1 Purple Plus, and 1 Aquablue Special.

Or

2 Blue Plus, 1 Purple Plus, and 1 Ge Daylight.

hey guys,
my 6 bulb sunpower seems to be blasting the corals with to much light over my 18 inch deep tank.

would raising the fixture 18 inches over the tank be reasonable or is that getting ridiculous?

the fixture is currently 12 inches above the tank
thanks for the help

Actually no. I'd try the new lamp and see how it goes. Even if you decide it's a little too much purple it's still a pretty damned cool look. I'd rather err that direction than yellow with the GE or washed out with the Aquablue.

Thanks for the advice. Once I receive the new merchandise I'll post pictures of my current setup and the new one.

After comparing the advertised Spectrum I would say the new ATI Coral bulb would probably have to run at least 3 of the ATI Coral and 1 ATI Blue Plus to equal 3 ATI Blue Plus and 1 ATI Aqua Blue Special.

The spectrum's they are using in there advertising show very light light in the peaks above the blue range compared to the aqua blue special.

he advertised spectrum charts are about as useful as a 3 dollar bill. I am going off what they say is in the lamp. Until someone who actually knows their butt from a hole tries one we aren't going to know for sure.

I have a IceCap 430 ballast, will it fire 2 80W t5's?
I recall reading about there being some issues with the 430 running t5's.

Let me know.

There has already been some pictures floating around a nice review on one. It is a little more pink than a KZ New Generation but still bluer than an Aquablue.

Reef geek is out of ge 6500 80w and offered Giesemann Midday Sun as a substitute. Should I get the midday or wait for the ge to get i stock.

+1 on the question

FWIW, here are the spectra as given at ReefGeek (Giesemann then GE):

Just eyeballing it, the Giesemann seems to have a higher peek at ~ 610nm (orange) and less at ~540 nm (yellow-green), with the GE being just the opposite. But as with the previous poster, I'd be interested in experience and/or informed opinion as to the pros/cons of the GE vice Gieseman (other than price, which is immediately apparent).

Hi, back to the questions. I have my Deep Blue 4x24" over my 20gal High mixed. I was hoping for SPS dominate but I might have to keep it towards the top. What do you guys think?
My new bulbs are arriving on Fri. 2 x Blue+, Coral+, Purple+. What order front to back should I run them?
Also, I read a few pages back that glass can block about 20% of the light passing through. Should I remove the glass shield that is in place on the fixture. It does have active cooling so would removing the shield be good or bad. Thanks in advance guys. This thread has to be one of the best i have ever found.

If it has cooling leave the shield on. Blue lamp in front, other than that whatever looks good to you and gets a dusk/dawn look you like.
