The T5 Q&a Thread - split

Looks good to me... The reason I'm responding though is to say IM JEALOUS!! I love that fixture!!

Awesome fixture, congrats. You could try playing with another bulb but ya it's good. The kz new gen is more blue than the coral plus, the ge6500 is an awesome growth bulb but will whiten your tank more.
It's always good to have an extra bulb just in case something happens to one or you want to tweak on it a little
Blue pluses are always good to have as you use them the most and I like the ge6500 because they are the cheapest ;)

Thanks. For your help. Just placed the order and also bought a GE 6500 to play with as well. And your right... Those are cheap!

Yep, definitely why I plan to put one in my lineup. I'll be starting at (front to back):

B+
Geismann Aquapink (have two lying around)
B+
GE 6500k
B+
B+

I like a little less blue look, so one of those rear B+ might get swapped out with an Aquablue Special or KZ New Gen.

Just wondern if 3 blue plus and 1 coral plus would be a good combo on a small zoa tank? Or 2 blue plus a purple plus and coral plus or 3 blue plus and a purple plus?

I'd like to switch from a 72" Nova Extreme Pro with 12 36" bulbs to an ATI SunPower 60" 8bulb fixture. Mostly softies, very few LPS in a standard size 180.

Can you provide the best combination of bulbs I should buy for growth and color?

Also, there are two cords with the fixture. One controlls 2 bulbs and the other 6. How long of a photo period should i provide with this new combination and at what should I start not to "burn" anything?

As always, I really appreciate your help.

5 ATI Blue Plus, 2 ATI Purple Plus and a GE 6500K

Hi Grimm,
Not trying to be a pest, but could you page back and reply to my earlier post? I've been holding off on placing an order hoping to get your opinion. Thanks a million!

Hi Grimm,
Change in plans from my last post - free Geismann Bulbs.

I have a 6 bulb, TEK Light over a 90 gallon, 48x24x18. What do you recommend for keeping softies and some LPS? Slightly blue is ok, I'm looking for growth and color pop.
Thank you for all the help you provided in these forums.

Hi Grimm,
It's that time of year to replace my bulbs. I have a 48", 6-lamp Ice Cap Retro set-up with 430 and 600 balasts. Mixed corals. Current set-up:

Front
ATI Blue Plus 430
Fiji Purple
ATI Blue Plus
Actinic White
GE 6500K
ATI Blue Plus 430

I like the bluer look so I was thinking of going with:
ATI Blue Plus 430
ATI Purple Plus
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus
KZ New Generation 14K
ATI Blue Plus

Any pros or cons in switching the Fiji Purple to the Purple plus? What about cons to removing the Actinic white? I'm looking for the 20K look you've described previously in this thread. Is there such a thing as a New Gen 20K?

Appreciate your comments!

Go with what you have listed on the bottom. Should be just what you are looking for.

Hi The Grim Reefer,

I currently use the following tube combination in my 6 X 39W ATI Sunpower as per your advice and other fellow reefers in this thread:

front
ATI Blue plus
ATI Purple plus
ATI Blue Plus
6500K (Sylvania)
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus

I am happy with it, but am considering a change when the tube replacement is due near XMAS, just for the sake of experiment.

What is your opinion on the following tube combination in terms of its impact on coral colouration and growth?

KZ SUPER BLUE X2
KZ CORAL LIGHT X 2
KZ NEW GEN X1
KZ FIJI PURPLE X1

I would not mind slightly yellow 10K look, which is what I used to have when I had a SE 10K BLV MH bulb without blues/actinics. The growth was very good and so was the colouration (BLV 10K peaks at 420 nm).

Can you also suggest a combination of tubes of your choice that will produce 10K look, which does not compromise coral colouration please?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Grim. Can you please offer your advice?

Hey Grim,
I am in need of some new bulbs. I have two Icecap 660s, one drives three bulbs, one drives two bulbs.

Any advice on my setup?

Hey Chaps,

Hello from Scotland :) I've got an ATI Powermdule 6x54W. I only really keep SPS. I've been wanting to get better growth and also get better blue and purples brought out on my SPS.

I used to run 3x ATI Blue Plus, 2x ATI Aquablue Special and 1x Purple Plus. Recently changed to just 2x Blue Plus adding in a Coral Plus. I don't like the tank to look to blue but want the best PAR and wavelength for SPS Coral growth. My priority is what's best for the SPS first and what my eyes like second.

Firstly, what combo would you recomend and in what order. Secondly does anyone have the PAR ratings for the ATI bulbs and which ones are recomended for best SPS growth.

Many thanks,

Cheers,

Fraser.

A ge6500 will bring out the colors and will make the tank sunnier and less blue, also a great growth bulb...and cheaper than other high end bulbs.
Maybe something like this...4 blue plus,ge6500 and a coral plus.
Maybe even 3 blue plus, 2 coral plus and a ge6500
GRIM?
