Are 250's overkill on a 1' tall tank? Also, if I raise up the nova would I get better growth on the edges and how would that affect par?

Maybe a little. I would probably lean more towards a 6 lamp ATI Sunpower mounted 10 inches or so above the tank. Should give good growth all around.

Once the tank is over about 20" tall it is time to think about overdriving if you have clams on the bottom or a lot of SPS.
Grimm,

I am putting a 8X80 watt ATI retro on a 72X24X30 what do i need to do to overdrive it to keep SPS and clams?

thanks

4 Blue Plus, 1 Actinic White and 1 GE 6500K Daylight. Grab an ATI Blue Plus for a spare and you can slip that in if you want to tone back the blue more.

I'm a little lost here...The ATI Blue Plus instead of which bulb?
There are already 4 blue plus in this config.
Also, is it also necessary to install canopy fans even though tut canopy is virtually topless?
Thanks Grim

Yes, the Ice Cap 660 is the best and least expensive way to run the 80 watt T5's anyway. The standard 80 watt T5 ballasts are expensive.

Aquablue, not blue plus. If you are running a fixture with fans then you don't need to add additional fans as long as there are plenty of vents in the canopy.

I just thought i would show the diffrence after changing from stock bulbs on my nova extreme pro to four aqua blue plus a ge 6500 k and a uv actinic white.

Grim,
Nice tread, been reading till end.But i need direct answer from you.
My tank specification 65 g 36x18x24. I have Tek light fixture 6 bulbs. What is the best combo for this. Am planing to keep Sps and LPS.
Thanks in advance..

Grim,

Thanks for your time!!

I am looking at T5 lighting for my 72"X18"x22" setup, planning on mixed reef w/clams on sand.

What is the difference between the SunPower and Powermodule...other than the price?

Also, do you think it would be OK to hang one of the above fixture in a tall (15"), well ventilated canopy? I don't think i could do Retro in this canopy...
Thanks
Isa

Either fixture should be fin Canopy will work but I would add a small fan blowing in fresh air and make sure the top and end vents of the fixture aren't blocked

A couple 10 or 14K halides with 4 T5's (2 in front ans 2 behind) is a nice setup if you can find a small enough halide reflector. You would need 10" for the T5's.

How would you suggest bulb configuration on 48 " T5 supplementation. I was told that the MH may give a spotlight effect so the T5's would be used to negate that effect.

What would be your suggestion for T5 supplementation if used with 14K MH bulbs? Canopy may only allow room for 3 T5's. How would you place them (2 in front 1 in back?) and what bulbs would you use. What would you use if I can fit 4 bulbs (2 in front and 2 in back?

What would be your bulb suggestion if used with 20 K Radium MH bulbs? Canopy may only allow room for 3 T5's. How would you place them (2 in front 1 in back?) and what bulbs would you use. What would you use if I can fit 4 bulbs (2 in front and 2 in back?

For 3 lamps

Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
Halide
Blue Plus

Use actinic White instead of 75/25 if you go 20K. for 4 T5's add an ATI Aquablue to either mix

ATI PowerModule 10 bulb

ATI PowerModule 10 bulb

Once again i come to you for advice.
48x24x24 120 lps and some softies. looking for 16 to 18k range with a lot of pop. Growth is low on the priority list. Thanks once again.

001-11.jpg

So I came here looking for a replacement set for my Nova Extreme Pro stock bulbs (4x10k's and 2x Actinics). Mixed reef, 40G breeder (although I'm eying up a 36" wide 65 gallon as well) with SPS, Zoas, Palys etc. I love the difference here but is there a better growth / lighting combo ?

Grim ?. Any suggestions ?. I've got 4 bulbs on one switch and 2 on the other. Would the suggestion be different if I went with the 65 instead of the 40g breeder ?

Thanks !!!

Hey Grim, you helped me set up my t5 bulb set on my 40breeder. It has an aquactinic 5 bulb fixture. And my light looks way white and like my corals are all washed out looking.

Right now I have:
Geismann Midday 6000k
GM Pure Actinic Plus
Empty
GM Pure Actinic Plus
Nameless MIdday 6000 K

What would you recommend to get a better overall color? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

How many lamps are you going to use?
