Do the bulbs really need to be changed every year? I've had my:

2x ATI Blue Plus
1x UVL Aquasun
1x UVL Super Actinic

For a year. They seem to still be going well....

Hi Grim
Would the TEK 4 bulb 48" fixture be my best bet for a 33 long frag tank (48x13x12)???

and regarding bulb choice-which is my best bet considering i like my tank blue (my display i run a 6 bulb tek with 5 blue plus's and 1 fiji purple) but it is a frag tank so i am mainly concerned about growth here.

thanks so much, we really appreciate it

Run 4 T5's on one ballast and 2 VHO Actinics on the other.

I'd sit an actinic at the front and rear and use 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 UVL Aquasun and 1 GE 6500K Daylight for the T5s.

Would the vho do better than t5 for actinics? What sort of coral can I support with this setup?

Depends on the setup and what your raising On a taller tank with SPS you shuld change them at least at 1 year.

Blue Plus lamps have high par so run as many as you like. The Tek would be fine for that tank.

Most people lke the look of VHO Actinics better With the 4 overdriven T5's you can raise most anything.

I'm wanting to set up a 36x24x24 mixed reef. From what I've read I would be better off with 8 bulb instead of 6. Is this right? If so it looks as though I'll be venturing into the world of lighting DIY.

If you were sticking to low or moderate light stuff 6 would work.

Hey Grim,

I have the Aquactinics 36" dual 175W MH with dual 39W T5's. What would be a good set of T5's to balance the colors out with the MH's being Iwasaki 15000K's. I don't want a harsh white look but also don't want to drown everything in blue.

Thanks Grim

Try a ATI Blue Plus behind the halide and a UVL 7525 in front. The pinkish light of the uvl will help bring out pink and purple colors. With the blue plus it makes a cool dusk/dawn effect.

ooo... I think that moving a short distance is harder than a very long distance because you end up having to do it all yourself...when you move, say across the country, hopefully a moving company does most of it... :) I don't envy you for the next few days...hopefully it will be a piece of cake.

see ya when ya get back...

I was looking at going with the Tek 6 bulb unit for my 75 gallon tank. I don't have a canopy and set the light over a glass cover. It doesn't look like these lights have a fan but supposedly they have cool operation. I really like the idea of no fan noise. Do they really run that cool to where they don't need a fan? I'd leave about an inch space above the glass top.
