Hey Guys,

I don't know if somebody already asked but has anybody try to open a Sunlight TEK T5 fixture ?

I own one (bought it used a couple of years ago) and two out of the four lights don't start. I think it's got to do with the ballasts.

Any help will be really apreciated.

I ended up ordering from bulk reef supply which had great prices with good shipping prices as well.:D

I ordered:

4 ati blue plus
1 ati aqua blue special
1 uvl actinic white

thanks for the help.

If it does turn out to be to blue for my taste (which i don't think it will) which bulb would you recommend to whiten it up a bit?

so for this combo should the bulbs be placed like this....fixture is a nova extreme pro.

actinic white

So Grim I have come up with quite an idea and wanted to share it with you and get some feedback. For Christmas I got the last little bit of things for my new tank. Now I just need my lights to come in.

My new idea for lighting my 40 gallon is to use a combo of T5's and LED's. I will be running an ATI Sunpower in the 4x24W version. On each side I will have a PAR38 LED bulb that spotlights each island of rock. This will give me the shimmer but the awesome color and growth with T5's. Plus the LED's will give a nice boost in PAR to help out.

I figure to have everything roughly 6" off the water or so to get good coverage and still have enough PAR for SPS up top and LPS down low. The PAR38 bulbs will be in the 20K coloration. So for the 4 T5 bulbs I thought this would do best:

ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Aquablue or GE 6500K
ATI Blue Plus

Any thoughts? I don't want overly blue and that is why I have thought of using a GE 6500K.

Hello all, I have skimmed through the past hundred pages or so and was looking to see if a 6x54w NEP T5 will keep anything in a 30" deep tank, Just some fish and mushrooms, polyps, Ect, Thanks

If you want things to blend in I would do the Aquablue. With 20K LED's the GE is going to really make the center section look brighter.

I have one more question since I'm already paying so much money for the lighting by the way which is 100 dollars cheaper at marine depot as oposed to reefgeek. What brand of heater should i purchase?

I just checked, they are the same price on the Tek, which is pretty good for MD, they have always been higher when I have checked in the past.

As far as heaters I always had good luck with the Jagers but the last one is a Via Aqua Titanium one that I really like.

t5 $ fans

t5 $ fans

my t5 fixture does not have fans built in. would it be beneficial to run external fans? if so where should they be positioned?
:)
also, would it be wise to remove the shields?

If it has no fans I would take off the shield. Having a small fan blowing in the area, but not directly on the lamps will help/
