Hello , Grim

What 6x39 bulbs would you recommend for LPS and softies ? this is for a nova extreme pro .

what i been thinking

ATI Blue +
ATI AquaBlue Sp
UL Super actinic
UL AquaSun
ATI Blue+
UL Actinic White

Thanks

Grimm, I have a question regarding ballast. What do you think is the cheapest, best for the money, ballast out there. I'm going to do a retro set-up in an 80 gallon low light tank. Uncleof6 reccomended the Advance ICN-2S54. I trust his advice, but I also value your opinion, since your the guru and all. Thanks grimm!

The Actinic White and Aquasun are both pink so don't use either as the first or last lamp and don't use both unless you want a purple tint to your light.

Advance has good ballasts, should be fine

Hi Grim,

I have a question regarding bulb positioning for my Tek (4X39W). The switches control either the 1st/4th bulbs and the 2nd/3rd bulbs, where should I place the Giesemann Actinic Plus - 1st/4th or 2nd/3rd? These are the bulbs I have and currently they are arranged as folllows:

Front
Midday (Giesemann)
Actinic Plus (Giesemann)
Actinic Plus (Giesemann)
Aquablue Plus (Giesemann)

Use 2 blue plus and 2 UVL Super Actinics. They will all 4 come on at the same time on the IC ballast.

Thanks.

I am trying to do all of this DIY so I have a couple more questions if that is ok.

I already have my ballast (Icecap 660). All I need now is some endcaps and reflectors right?

I was looking at reefgeek and saw the "T5 Fluorescent Moisture Proof End-Caps (Pair)". I am assuming those would work for me.

For reflectors all I saw was 'SLR T5 Retrofit Reflector for 1-24W Bulb". Didn't realize they were so pricey. Is this what I need or are there other/better options?

Am I forgetting something?

reflectors run anywhere from 19-25 a piece. And since you have the ballast, all you will need it reflectors and end caps, like you thought. I would really recommend to cool the ice cap ballast, and bulbs if you have room for a couple fans.

Well looks like I'll be going ATI everyone I've called is out of stock with the Aquactinics(Constellation) so I'm unsure of one last thing..

Going with the ATI will be a huge upgrade from the Tek. My old unit was 6 bulbs and I'm trying to decide on the 6 bulb sunpower vs the 6 bulb powermodule. As much as I'ld like to get the 8 buld ATI with my money being tight its not an option.
My tank performed well with the sls tek and should do better with the upgraded light(ATI). granted they both have 6 bulbs.

Also what bulbs for a nice blueish tint
and any other thoughts before I order?

Thanks again

Hi, I am looking for some advice on replacement bulbs for my reef tank.

I am running a TEK T-5 Fixture. It is 48" and has 8x54 watt bulbs.

My tank is 120G, and I have primarily soft corals, with a plan to add some zoa's, and maybe a few easier SPS's.

Looking for something that is going to allow the corals to thrive, and also pop out the colors.

Any suggestions?

I haven't started the design of the hood yet, but will definitely have room for some fans.

4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 KZ Fiji Purple, 1 GE 6500K. Reefgeek is a good place to get all of that.

You will only need the Sunpower. No need to pay the hefty price tag for the Powermodule unless you really want it.

Hello , Grim

I need to change mine lamps setup. What 8x24 bulbs would you recommend for LPS and softies ? this is for a aqua that can be seen by both sides

what i been thinking about some like that

--- Video Room ---
ATI Blue +
ATI AquaBlue
ATI Blue +
UV Super Actinic
ATI Pro Color
ATI Blue+
ATI AquaBlue
ATI Blue+
--- Dinner Room ---

Thanks in advance

OK my turn, I have a Nova Extreme Pro with I have been running for two months. When I bought this it had two standard bulbs and the other four broke during shipment. Looking to add something to bring out reds (thinking Fiji KZ) and flourescence (actinic or blueish bulb) So I am looking to change out the stock bulbs here are my current bulbs:

FRONT
ATI - Blue +
UV- 75/25
ATI - Blue +
UV - Aquasun
Actinic - Stock Bulb
White Daylight - Stock Bulb
BACK

So what two (2) bulbs would be good choices as replacement to the stock bulbs?

Thanks,
Scott

Place your Actinic Plus front and rear instead. It makes a big difference having the first lamp being a blue one. The center 2 will make a slight difference and you will just have to play with that but the first last actinic plus will improve the look a lot.

If you call reefgeek we will put you together a retrofit kit minus ballast for you. You need lamps, reflectors, end caps and standoffs which is what the end caps mount to. I assume you have the wiring harness with the ballast.

You will also need a fan to cool the lamps.

Powermodule would be best but the Sunpower would work.

Front
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue

Should be a good place to start.
