Hey Grim,
I have the Aquaticlife 4x24 fixture with the built in timer. what bulb combo could i use to still maximize the use of the timer. It has a dusk/dawn sort of configuration when it comes with the stock bulbs. in the tank i have mostly softies and a few sps, i would like to increase the number of sps in the tank, an possibly add a clam eventually. if the timer can be used other than dusk/dawn should i do that and if so what bulbs then would you suggest

Hey Grim, not sure if this has been asked before but i have never run across the answer yet. With the ice-cap reflectors, how far away should the bulb be placed from the reflectors middle ^ or would I measure from the ( part of it? Please be precise on the description, I can be a little dense sometimes :o , thanks.

Unless you are doing something different the reflectors are clipped right to the lamp and the supplied clip provided the right distance. If you are doing something different you can just use the supplied clips to measure the distance.

Grim you had me put in 5ati blue plus, 1 uvl actinic white, 1 ge 6500k daylight, and 1 ati blue plus. how would the set up be if i took out one of the blue plus and used an ati aqua blue?
thank you for taking the time to help myself and so many other people out with there lighting questions. It is much appreciated!!!!

I probably meant to type Aquablue and screwed up. Add it in. As far as positions place the Actinic white just front of center and make sure the Blue Plus's are in the dust/dawn positions.

Forget clams with that fixture if you tank is more than about 16 inches tall.

For lamps 2 ATI Blue Plus in the dusk/dawn positions and 1 ATI Aquablue and a KZ Fiji Purple in the other 2.

Grim, with same bulbs installed how comparable do you expect these fixtures to be in PAR values? I'm considering 6x39w for a 50 and 4x54w for a 55. Do you have a preference for the Fiji or Tek Elite? Thanks.

Hey Grim,

Finally got my Sfiligoi fixture and the build quality is amazing. This is the Ferrari of lighting fixtures.
Couple questions for you.

Here's what I did with the bulbs:

Front
B+
AS
SuperB
FiJi purple

How can I make this slightly bluer wo changing any of the bulbs?

How high off the water should I keep the fixture? I have seen this question asked a few times w different responses. fixture is an 8 bulb 80 watt. The sucker is bright!

Thanks in advance..

Hey Grim, I just set up a 25 gallon tank which will be housing mostly softies and a few LPS corals. I have a 24" Coralife PC fixture that I was thinking of using. What bulbs would you suggest I use to get the most PAR and a 14k look. I would like the coral to at least pop a little. I have the stock bulbs, actinic and I think it's a 10k bulb... they are 65 watters, and it looks really drab. OR do you think I should ditch the PC's and go with T5's?? If so, any suggestions are far as a fixture and bulb combination? Thanks!!

I've never seen the hamilton but from what I remember they don't advertise using the special reflector materials so I'd go with the tek

Try flipping the positions on the 2nd and 3rd lamps from the front and see what you get. Not a lot to work with there as far as bumping the blues.

Even a cheap T5 fixture would be a nice upgrade for you. I am not really up on PC lamps so can't really help much. I used one blue and one of the combo's where the one tube was 6500K and one was 10K and it looked good.

Thanks Grim...

Here's a bad pic of my tank...

Grim, I'm running a Current Outer Orbit fixture and the bulb combinations are..... 2X 150W Phoenix 14k - 2X ATI Blue+ - 1X KZ Fugi Purple - 1X ATI Blue Special. I've drove myself crazy trying to figure out which MH bulbs to use. I tried the Reeflux 12k's and they were really dim to me. I've also tried using the original MH's that came with the fixture. They are just too darn ugly and very yellow. Now I'm using the Phoenix 14k's, but the problem is the tank looks way too blue and washed out. So my question is.....should I be looking at some other T5 bulb that could brighten things up a little, or just search for new MH bulbs? I really would like a bright 10 - 12k look if that's possible. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Hi Grim, I've got a question, I just bought a 40gal. breeder from petco. for $1pr. gal. and i'm setting up a mixed reef. Sps, lps, clam and some acans. I'm going with and ATI fixture. My question is should i go 24 or 36 in length. I'll probably go six bulb unless you think differently. What color combo, would be good for what I'm trying to accomplish. Thanks, -Joe B.

Try a UVL Actinic White either with or in place of the fiji purple. The AW is more harsh and should wash out more blue than the Fiji. Option 2 would be to run the fiji with 2 Blue Plus and a GE 6500K Daylight.
