thanks for the quick response. I just ordered the MH/T5 fixture.

I noticed that you are doing a DIY LED. Do you think I'd be better off biting the $ bullet and ordering the following LED fixture? Aqua Illumination 48" 4 Modular LED Light System w/ Controller.

Yes. Up and coming technology so you will pay more than you would say 6 months from now, just a matter of how much. Long term you will probably never have to change an emitter, they should last 6 years easy and don't party much with Mr. Electricity.

Hi everybody, I'm building a 50 gal sps tank. I was considering using either 4 or 6 bulb t5's, my ideas were using either:
blue plus
aqua blue
true actinic
fiji purple
blue plus
aquablue

or subtract a blue plus and aqua blue for 4 bulb combo.

My question is..what sounds best for my setup? Thank you in advance.

I'd do 6 but drop the actinic and add another Blue Plus

Try 3 Blue Plus, 1 Fiji and 1 New Gen. Gonna be really blue and have good growth. If you decide it's too blue drop the new gen for a Aquablue

Use an ATI or Geisemann Aquablue instead of the actinic. Reefgeek is a good place to get lamps.

Hey Grim! Will 8 T5's work on an SPS dominated 70 gallon cube that's 18 inches deep? I was thinking of getting two coralvue T5/LED combo 4 bulb fixtures. If it doesn't would 10 bulbs work? And also what bulb combo?

An I know your the T5 guy by I thought I would ask would the 10 Cree LED's from the fixture create shimmer over the T5's?

should I change the bulb or cut back on how long the bulbs are on

You didn't ask it yet...........

2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and a KZ Fiji Purple unless you have 10K halides, then drop the Aquablue and use 3 Blue plus

Leave the dusk dawn timing where it's at and decrease the daylight down to about 4 hours. Ice Cap LED tubes work nice for LED's.

Tek fixture. anything over 22" deep which is the front to back measurement you will want 8 lamps.
