Looks like you already have a canopy. You could hang a 8x80 watt ATI Powermodule inside or even build an LED fixture that would mount in the canopy. What does it matter what it looks like if it's covered?

If you are going to do away with the canopy then you could hang the powermodule over it. Should give you as much or more PAR than all but the best 250 watt halides.

Anyone know what these would look like? Sunpower 6x54w fixture. I want a 14k look, maybe a little more blue but not too much. 75g SPS dominated tank

Front to back:

ATI 54W Blue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent
ATI 54W Aquablue Special T5 HO Fluorescent
Korallen Zucht 54W Fiji Purple T5 HO Fluorescent
UVL 54W 10000K AquaSun T5 HO Fluorescent
ATI 54W Aquablue Special T5 HO Fluorescent
ATI 54W Blue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent

Nasty. Use a Blue Plus in place of the Aquasun and save yourself 10 bucks on the purple lamp, get a ATI Purple Plus instead of the Fiji Purple.

Hi,
Setting up an 26.5 gal tank, dimensions 24" x 16" x 16".
I'm looking at using an ATI powermodule not sure whether to go with 4 bulb or 6?
Planning on keeping LPS and softies but initially later expanding into SPS and clams.
Cheers

To be honest, you will fry any LPS or softie you put in that tank with an ATI. They are way too much for that small of a tank.

I would look into the Tek fixtures instead. A 4 bulb is all you will need.

Grim,

I'm switching from this:

On an ATI SunPower fixture. I run bulbs 1, 3, 4, & 6 all day and as dawn/dusk for a total of 12 hours. Bulbs 2 & 5 kick on for 8 hours in the middle of the day. How do you think this bulb change will effect my tank?

Try the purple in 2 and a Blue in 5 and see what you think for Dusk/dawn. 4 lamps for 12 hours probably wouldn't hurt anything other than your power bill.

Grim:

Hello Again. We went through this several years ago when my 40g breeder was new and I was playing around with both T5's and a dedicated LPS tank for the very first time. Now that the tank has matured (doing quite well, actually) and it's nearly time to change out the bulbs once again, I thought I'd ask if you've come across anything new I ought to try, either relating to bulb combinations or bulbs themselves. The fixture is the 6 bulb Nova Extreme Pro and the major inhabitants are:

2 Aussie Elegances (Doing very well)
1 Duncan (Also doing well)
2 Scolys (Fairly new. I'd really like to 'pop' the colors on these as well as provide optimal lighting, of course).
4 small Acanthastrea colonies. (Doing fair-to-middlin'. May be a flow problem.)
1 Dendro colony (Doing okay and growing though has a tendency to develop algae between the polyps which must be cleaned out often.)

There is also a basslet, some zoas, a favia, and a few snails, etc. for clean up.

I do not house SPS in this tank except to hold frags a day or two before they're picked up.

So, given these factors, what would be my best lighting choice and in what arrangement, please. Thanks again.

2 Ellegances, I hate you. No bulbs for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and a ATI Purple Plus

Got a question...I have a 2x39 watt t5 fixture, would this be enough for anything other than soft corals? It's over a 40 breeder. In the past I kept some LPS in a 29gal. with 110 watts of pc lighting. With this setup only having 80watts, I wasn't sure. From reading on here I know that t5's have a higher intensity than pc's. Is there any guideline on how many watts are required for more light demanding corals?

Soft corals is about it and even then you aren't gonna have the coverage you need over that tank.

At a minimum you need 4 bulbs over that tank but I highly recommend 6. I have a 40 gallon breeder right now with a 4x24w ATI Sunpower over the tank and keep anything I want. Really wish I had a 6 bulb though for better coverage front to back.

Hey Grim first I'd like to say thanks... I bought a t5 setup based on your recommendations and have been very happy with it. Its time to change bulbs and I've been debating on the to combos below. Any thoughts?
