There is very little difference between the Fiji Purple and Purple Plus. The biggest difference is price. They look identical. The Fiji might be a little more pink but not by much.
Your first combo will be washed out white.
I suggest 4 ATI Blue Plus and 2 ATI Purple Plus.

Hi Grim, Popped in a Fiji Purple, and replaced my 2 PC Odyssea actinics with the Hamilton Dual Blues (420 and 460nm) and all I have to say is WOW...
The fiji brought out the red end of the spectrum, without tainting the other colors, and the new dual blues REALLY helped make everything pop!

Trying to properly cool 8 bulb fixture over driven by icecap ballast. Any fan placement recommendations? Here is the fixture I am building:
it will be suspended from the ceiling so open top and bottom.
Will one fan cooling the labels work? or do you all think I need one in the front and one in the back?

Grim, you seem pretty knowledgeable on this stuff. I just got my tank up and running. 40g Truvu acrylic tank. Its a bit different than most as the pic below shows. It has a top built onto it with clear acrylic lids for the openings. Im concerned about light not being able to penetrate the top of the tank well enough with salt creep and water stains on the top. Was going to cut it out with a router but figured the top also keeps heat out of the tank in the even that I go halide. Whats your thoughts? T5 x 6? Dims are 36x15x18 I believe.

4 lamps sunpower would be good. 2 Blue Plus, 1 Purple plus and a Aquablue would be fine.

One fan blowing on the label end should be fine.

The top will block a lot of light. You could use LED pendants is it's in your budget. T5's will still work and might even be a better idea if you plan a mixed reef. Just keep the high light critters below the cutouts in top so they get the full amount of light.

I know you have done extensive research on lighting and I very much appreciate your hard work. I have an ATI PowerModule 8 bulb X 80 Watt (60") and am not happy with my lighting arrangement. I run this over a 150G Reef and just don't seem to get what I expect out of it. It hangs 6-7 inches above the water. It's near time to replace the bulbs so I would appreciate your input as to what bulbs I should run and in what configuration. From front to back, the 3rd and 6th bulb are on a separate controller so they are used as the early/late set. Also note that there are a few bulbs on the market that do not come in the 80W 60" length. I want to keep more SPS than anything else so what do you suggest?

No. It takes almost 3 Blue Plus bulbs to counter act the harshness of an Aquablue. Then you add another bright purple bulb with the Purple Plus.

Put a ATI Purple Plus in 2 and 7, GE 6500K Daylight in 5 and ATI Blue Plus in the rest. Reefgeek should have all them in 80 wattts

Second one should look good. If you want a more white overall look use a GE 6500K daylight instead of the Aquablue.

So would my option #2 with the (4) Blue+, (1) purple+ & (1) Aquablue be considered a more white or blue spectrum setup?
I was figuring the aquablue was better for coral growth than all blue+ & purple+. Opinions?

It will look about 15K and the Aquablue doesn't have much if any more PAR than Blue Plus
