They don't make the TEK elite 36" in a 4 bulb. If you think the tek is the best route for me then I might go ahead and get the 6 bulb. Looks like the width includes a few inches of metal (from the pictures) so maybe it won't be too bad and the back sides of the tank will benefit from the extra light. If you think this is overkill for this tank then set me straight as I don't want to waste money and additional power if not necessary. If I did go with a 6 bulb setup, what bulbs configuration should I get with the same critters and potential to dabble in soft corals later.

oh my lord. i hope this wont turn into a full time job thread for you lol. Anyways i read this.

"Hi Grim,

I have a 105G (48Lx19Wx29H) that I am putting together. I picked up a Teklight 8 bulb fixture at a great price. I am wanting to start off with LPS, eventually moving to SPS and maybe clams. What combo of bulbs would you run on this type of setup? I like a setup that makes the corals pop and is a little blue but not overly so. Can you help me out here? Thanks for your great input!

For me im putting a 8bulb t5 fixture over my 120g (4x2x2). would you recommend this bulb setup for me or something else? What i want to do is sps at top and clams in sand bed. I will have a shelf style rock structure for shade for extreme low light corals but still want lps in sand bed/rocks also. Whats your recommendation grim?

thanks for your well spent time :)

The reflector will be about 12" front to back. 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Purple Plus and a GE 6500K. The 6th lamps does get you a better color combination and if you want an anemone you gotta have a lot of light unless you are feeding it often.

I would get an 8 lamp ATI Sunpower. For lamps I would do 5 ATI Blue Plus, 2 ATI Purple Plus and a GE 6500K Daylight. I wouldn't trust anything less for clams on the sand of a 120

Just a decent low end fixture. You can use ATI lamps in any HO T5 fixture of the same wattage as the lamps.

Alrighty. And if I went with the ATI bulbs and wanted a whiter look more of MH and not so blue, what combo would you go with?

PS. Thanks a ton for the quick reply. I'm amazed you put up with this forum... thats alot of work...

Awesome! Thanks for your help. I do have my fixture already it's a tech knock off but hey it lights up like crazy!!! I do like that bulb setup. I will order the bulbs. Thanks again. Here it is with 2yr old bulbs lol. Got it used.

And just a question, how blue will your bulb recommendation be? But idk how to measure "how blue" it will be haha?

I'd be concerned with clams on the bottom with a real Tek fixture. I wouldn't think about it with a knock off.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a site with pictures of 8 bulb fixtures with different bulb combinations and how the effect the color of the tank? I think I ran across this sort of site a couple of years ago but can't for the life of me locate it now. Thanks in advance!

Have a 55g with a sebae anemone. Have Current Extreme 4x54 T5. Looking to make the purples and pink stand out. What kind of bulb configuration do you suggest for this tank?

What order for the bulbs assumming I do typical 12 hour dawn/dusk 8 hour for the rest? Will this be really blue? If that is good for my livestock I will try but in the event I would like a little more white, what adjustments could I make to the bulb selection and order?

I think I am done bugging. Really appreciate your help!

3 Blue Plus and a Purple plus or use an aquablue in place of a blue plus if you want a less blue look.

Blue lamps in front and back. Other than that however you want. Wont be super blue.

I was wondering if I should get a 4x24 or a 6x24 ATI Sunpower? I have a 28 Gallon bowfront, believe the dims are 24x12x18 and 16" in the middle of the bow. I know the 6 bulb would have a little overhang inward towards the bow.

Right now I have an aquaticlife 4x24 fixture and feel some of my sps could use more light, and if I upgraded to an ATI I could put some SPS pieces lower too. Thanks for any help.

Hello all. Planning on t5 on my new 90g. It's 48x20x22w. It will be sps dominated mixed reef. What Ati fixture and bulb combo will work? Thanks.

Hi guys, I've got a 40g breeder in the planning stages and want to know which lighting would be best. It will have SPS, an anemone, and possibly a clam.
First, T5 or LED? I ask this because I am not sure if I can get the same colors as my T5s with LED. Can I?
Second, if I do end up with T5, should I go Tek Elite, ATI Sunpower, or ATI Powermodule. I think I remember reading that rtparty had a 24' 4 bulb ATI on his 40 breeder. Should I go this way also?

4 lamps. You could do SPS close to the bottom with that light.
