The Grim Reefer
Ready for some NOBALL!!!
Grim,
I found a bulb combo that is pleasing to my eye. 6 blue plus and 2 fiji purples. My par is 250-300 on the sand bed am I ok to run this combo on a sps tank?
Thanks
Pretty much all the way to the sandbed.

Pull the GE for another Blue Plus
Hey Grim,
I have 4 bulb ATI Powermodule fixture on my predominately SPS tank. It has two ATI Blue Plus and two ATI Aquablue Special bulbs.
I have just sold it and have a 6 bulb Powermodule on the way. I do like the Blue Plus and the Aquablue Special and want to continue with these.
What do you recommend for the 6 bulb selection? I sold the bulbs with the fixture and so I am buying 6 new bulbs. I would like to get more color in the tank but not at the expense of losing PAR and coral growth.
Do you think I should go with the bulbs listed above and also an ATI Purple plus (or the similar KZ Fiji purple)?
Please let me know your suggestion of how many of each and configuration as well as if you have any other bulb ideas.
Thanks a lot.
Ken

okies... now that my head really hurts from reading... urgh so many things to think about. I'm new and dont have a clue. here is what I posted in the reef discusion
Ok I know it has been talked to death but one more time. On a 75 tank 4 and 6 bulb mix. What would you use? I'm going to start with 4 bulbs. I have 1 white 12k and 1 actinic blue. I will get 2 more today but which ones? I thought 1 more white and 1 blue but what about a sorta red one? Then what about the other 2 later?
the fixture i have is a 6 bulb with 2 bulbs on one ballast in postion 3 and 4
All i have in the tank is live rock and 4 onxy mis bar clown and 1 blue tang. I have a Kenya tree and soon to have a green zoanthad, think that's what's its called.
like I said I dont have a clue. which ones and where to put them.

Okay Righyt now you have an Atinic Blue which will cover the 420nm range and give some additional light up to the 460 nm range. The 12,000 K bulb will give you more than enough light in basicly all the other frequencies. For your next two bulbs I'd recommend you strongly that you go with ATI Blue Plus bulbs as you realy do need a majority of your light in Blue end of the spectrum centered around 460 nm. This is where a majority of the corals photosynthesis as well a the light absorbed by most of the florescent pigments in corals.
Later when you add additional bulbs I'd reccomend getting one ATI Purple Plus and one ATA Aqua Blue Special. These bulbs also produce a lot of additional blue as well as other frequencies. The Purple will add a little more red. and the Aqua will add a little more greens.
Thinking of doing that: can you post a pic of how it looks? also, what order do you have them in?I found a bulb combo that is pleasing to my eye. 6 blue plus and 2 fiji purples.
i know you have probebly been asked a million times but could you give me an 8 tube recommendation please for this sps tank. Ive ordered the unit i just need to sort the lamps as im changing from halides

wow thats alot of blue, will the sps still get good growth from all that blue?
According to Sanjay Joshi and his spectrometer(sp?), the ATI Blue Plus is the highest PAR bulb on the market.
Remember his meter costs about 20x what the standard Apogee meter does.
i take it by blue plus you mean the ATI lamp?
