Changing over to a full t5 retro. 6 bulbs with options for 2 more if they will fit. Currently using all Guiseman bulbs. 4 actinc +, 1 true actinc. 1 10k. Not in that order. With the new retro is slr reflectors, and room for more bulbs. I also have 2 new pro color bulbs but have heard of people have algea issues with them. What bulbs and configuration for 6 bulbs, and if you can add up to 2 more what would they be? I have guiseman readily availble locally but can order as well. Thanks!

Use the UVL Actinic White instead of the pro color.

ok. so if i changed the aquasun out for a uvl actinic white would that give it a more bluer tint? what bulb would be giving the purple tint(aqua blue special)?

The Aquasun/Actinic White will have a pink tint to them which is what creates the purple tint. The Actinic White will give you a slightly more overall blue look because it is not quite as pink as the aquasun

Hey Grim and all, Merry X-mas, happy quansa, happy haunika and a happy all the rest.

I have been collecting for a personal setup. I have 7 dual channel HO ballasts and 7 seperate digital timers that have a 20 on/off settings. I want to get some Icecap reflectors and I was also thinking of incorperating 1 or 2 independant VHO ballasts (for regular lighting) to really get some light in there.

I like the look (in the pictures) of steely185's tank with the setup below but would maybe change out the Gieseman for a 75/25, take out the UVL super actinic and do a VHO actinic between the 75/25 and fiji purple. That would give me 5 day bulbs to work with and a night time eye candy actinic. I am trying for a true white with maybe a tinge on the yellow if i had to decide a color, thats off of white.

KZ fiji purple

Giesemann Actinic+ (about the same as a blue +, little less par)

I will be growing zoas, hairy mushrooms, frogspawn, maybe an anemone (and would rather have it near the top for the fish's sake), green star polyps, xenia, a peice of acopora or two at most torch coral, Goniopora (I know, i know) , sun polyps / dendro's (not sure what they are and know they dont do sun, but, mine open in the day time) and thats all i can think of right now. I dont want any clams cause they get big, lol.

With this setup, how would you set it up to come on and go off. I have not really sat down to think about how to hook up until now. 5 minutes into thinking about it my head is starting to spin, lol, and I thought I would ask the experts on thier choice of setup to help jump start some ideas. I have a 90 gallon tank thats 48"Lx18"Wx23?D .

Thanks

I would probably try 2 UVL 75/25, one near the front and near the back with the rest ATI Blue Plus lamps. That should give you an eerie blue with enough of the off color spectrum from the UVL lamps to really make things like pink or purple colors stand out strong.

how are the ati aquablue specials compared to the uvl actinic whites?

I have a question. I understand simulating a day/night period using a MH/T5/LED combo but how can you simulate it with just T5's?

I think I want to buy a T5 fixture instead of a combo because of heat and energy issues. I was looking at the NEP 36" 6 bulb or the TEK 6 bulb.

If you really want a white look with a bit of yellow that will get you very close.

You just need to use the 2 lamp circuit with blue plus or actinic lamps (combination of the two) for dusk/dawn.

Hey Grim-
How long a photo period would your recommend? Im using ATI's 4bulb Sunpower with the 3 blue+ and one UBL actinic white. And, I'm stocking some light needy SPS.. (I'm very happy with how this bulb combo looks/works, thanks for the help with that).

I have a 72" long 24" wide 30" deep i have 3 175 watt mh & 72" pc 4 bulb
what bulbs do i use for this set up best color & coral groth

Thanks grim, appreciate it but I think we got mixed up a little. While I will keep that bulb setup you have listed as a ref, what I ment was that I was looking for a white white color. If white was not obtainable, and there was/is a color hue to the left or right of the white spectrum, i would want to try to be on the yellow side.

Thanks for all the answering your doing here for everyone. Hope you had a good x-mas.

I would do 10 to 12 on the Dusk/Dawn pair and 8 to 10 on the rest.

On those lamps?

I would get the Iwasaki 15K lamps which have killer PAR for a 175 and look good. The PC Actinics are OK so load up on those and be careful where you place high light critters. Any SPS has to be on top of the rocks.

A GE 6500K Daylight in place of the actinic plus or pure actinic in back would probably be what I think you are looking for.
