This has probably already been asked, but I'm going to anyways. I've got an 8 bulb tek fixture. I'm looking for about a 15 or 16k look. Could you give me a bulb combination? All of my bulbs are old and need replacing.

I was thinking something like this:
Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
Blue Plus
Blue Plus

Thanks Grim!

Just swap the position like I did above so the blue plus is between the Aquablue and Actinic White. I would grab a GE 6500K Daylight to swap in if you find the look too blue.

Maybe do a GE 6500K Daylight instead of the Aquablue if you have Yellows, I T H I N K the Actinic Whites will hit yellow good but just to be safe the GE lamp will for sure.

Try to place the GE lamp at the center with a Actinic white a couple places front and rear of the GE. Just make sure you have blue plus for dusk/dawn.

Your the best Grim. Much obliged.

Ok guys, I need some advice.
I was planning on getting one of these three lights for my 40b depending on my budget. ATI 6x39, TEK 6x39 or current NEP 6x39, but my LFS is insisting that I don't need 6 bulbs on that narrow of a tank, and there will be a lot of light escaping off the sides of the tank.

So, which light should I get the 6x39 or 4x39? It will mostly be a softy and LPS tank but I would eventually like to try some SPS. I do have one birdsnest now.

I have a 125g 60X18X24 with not much going on right now. i want to be able to keep mostly SPS but want the flexibility of knowing that i can keep almost anything. Here is my question. I'm looking at the Nova Extreme 48" 8 bulb fixture which means that i will have 6" of light falloff on the ends of my tank. Will this be ok or should i look at a 72" fixture or 60" T5/HQI ?

Im about to buy a 36" 6-bulb ATI fixture. Cant decide on the Sunpower or Powermodule. The price difference is about $180-$190. What do you all think? Which one should I get? Im going to use it on a 21" deep tank, it will be suspended @ about 4-8 inches above the water. I currently own a Powermodule, I love it, but if the Sunpower is the same but cheaper, who can blame me for wanting to save a bit of money. My only concern is build quality and does that extra fan the PM has actually help as much as one would hope?

I would do a 6 lamp fixture but 4 would work if you are careful where you place the critters.

Is the tank 60" or 72?

In either case keep thinking. 6 lamp ATI unit would be the best choice.

Sunpower should be fine unless you are going crazy with clams and SPS.

Hello Grim:
On July '09 you helped me with my choyces for my new ATI T5 fixture.
Well, I would like to get ready to choose the new bulbs for the tank and this time I would like to bring the reds and greens more on fishes and zoas. What do you recomend?
Could you write 2 or 3 choices so I can choose?
My fixture has 6 X 48" bulbs.
Today I have:
BLUE PLUS
BLUE PLUS
PURE ACTINIC
75x25
BLUE PLUS
BLUE PLUS.

I like the blue of the tank, but want to change for more like 10.000K look.
Maybe not all the way to the 6.500s.

Thanks a lot for all the help.
cheers.
Grandis.

Hey guy quick question, i guess the last place i posted was wrong due to lil or no feed back. Im wanted the best bang for my buck using the the fixture i have running my 65 gallon aquarium the dimensions are 36 by 18 by 24.
depth might be wrong i dunno no measuring tape handy. Anyways the fixture im using is a marineland proseries with 14k 150watt hqi and 4x39watt actinics. So what do you think i will get the best color and pop and growth with using this fixture just new bulbs. It is a mixed reef.
thanks

Grim, you should be canonized as the first "Reef Central Saint". These threads are amazing - thanks for sharing all the knowledge.

Now, my question...

For a 24"x24"x24" 60g Marineland cube, to have NO limitations (I want a tridacna maxima clam eventually), would I have to use a 6 bulb fixture like the ATI Sunpower 6x24 or could I use a 4x24 in the Sunpower or Tek? A lot of folks have pointed me to MH just because of the small cube dimensions, but I really would like to go with T5s in order to tune the colors.

And since you are answering.... is there any special bulb selection to consider due to the compact 2'x2' size of the tank footprint??

Thanks!

4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and a UVL Actinic White. Should look like a bluer 14K Halide with actinics running

Sorry to keep asking but I checked with my local shop and they only sell Giesemann or ULV bulbs. Which combo would you go with considering these bulbs? Thanks for your time.

Grimm,

ive got a 90 gallon... 36x24x24... It has a 4-5 in sand bed. I cant decide between 6 or 8 39w t5 bulbs. I also plan on adding ecozotic stunners LEDs to my lighting system. My goal is to keep chalices and some other LPS. No SPS or clams.

This is an acrylic tank and has a canopy where im planning on installing t5 retro fit kits. Does 6 bulbs sound good or should i go with 8? Im concerned with heating up the tank temp. and getting corals enough light. Who sells a good retrofit kit?

The inside of my canopy is 35 inches long.... will these retrofit kits fit? They are labeled 36" bulbs.

Thanks Grimm

also, grim,i'm getting a 4x24 watt tek light fixture. with 2 ati blue plus, 1 uvl super actinic, and 1 kz purple. is this a good lighting combo for coral survival? i like the look just wondering if it will have any negatives.

also what positions should i have them on the tek light?thanks a bunch!
the thing you do answering these lighting questions, you should be given a reward haha

Problems with coral colors

Problems with coral colors

I have a Nova 4 lamp 24 watt set up on a 29-gallon nano. I know the Nova is not the best fixture out there and it does not have individual reflectors. Cost is a factor here. The lamps I am currently using are Giesemann, 2 Aquablue+, 1 Pure Actinic and 1 Acrinic+, these are brand new. I was using ATI lamps before this in the same configuration and with pretty much the same problem for 18 months.

My problem is that with the Actinics on my corals colors pop but as soon as the Aquablues come on they looked washed out and brown. In particular I have some GSP that is almost totally brown. Location of the corals in the tank does not make a difference. My question is could I use all Actinics or is there some other combination of lamps that would keep the corals colors from washing out? What could I change the Aquablue+ out for that would make the colors pop all the time?
