The T5 Q&a Thread

hey guys, are there any plans to offer any quality 20" T5 bulbs in the near future? Trying to decide on some lighting for a 20" solana tank.

UVL has released 18" bulbs that should be really good. They should come in all of their popular colors and are using the same phosphors as the larger bulbs. I think they are also releasing 12" T5 bulbs. They also beefed them up to withstand overdriving from Ice Cap ballasts.

I think they start shipping in March sometime from Nano Tuners.

I've got a four bulb fixture. Right now I'm running all Geismann Powerchromes. From back to front:

Actinic+
Aquablue+
Actinic+
Aquablue+

The look is very white in the tank now that the lights have burned in a bit. I'm trying to go for something a bit more blue without going all actinic or something crazy like that. Would you suggest replacing one of the aquablue+ lamps with a fiji purple or something similar? If so what do you think the bulb order would be. Thanks in advance. This thread is great!

Note, LPS heavy and some SPS in this tank

Try a fiji purple. If that still looks too white add a 3rd blue plus.

Hadn't heard about that one. They could really clean up if they made a 12" fixture.

They are making 12" bulbs for sure. Nano Customs/Nano Tuners put enough pressure on UVL to finally do something. ATI and Gmann are screwed in that market. Hopefully they have something in the works for us though.

Now Grim is the time for you to step in and start making fixtures! Instead of the LET Lighting fixtures have Reefgeek call them "The Grim Reefer" fixture.

Hey that is an idea! A Grim Reefer stamp of approval. Screw the UL listed stuff. If Grim approves it, then you know it is good.

Is a powermodule 6 bulbs enough for a 58g oceanic tank ( I believe 21" deep), to keep sps only and clams? or should I go with MH?

Grim Reefer: Thank you for the advise you gave me a few pages ago. I just wanted to let you know that it is appreciated. Lighting is one of the toughest decisions for the aquarist and its super nice of you to make everyone's lives easier!

Thanks again!

I'm waiting for someone to beam a laser through a DLP chip.

Ok I have decided on the Sunlight Supply's Tek light. Sorry I know if have asked this before but I just want to make My final decision on the amount of bulbs I get in the fixture. Here is the question, I have a 75g and If I want to keep Clams is it going to matter weather I get the 6 or the 8 bulb fixture. Thanks for your help : )

If you want clams I would go with the 6 lamp ATI Sunpower.

If you just gotta do the Tek do 6 lamps with an External fan blowing over the top.

Grim, first thanks for taking your time with this thread.

I've been reading and found you recommending 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and a UVL Actinic White for a 4x 39.

Would you still recommend this mix for a 4x54?

If it makes a difference this is a 90 fowlr with a few zoas, and shrooms.

Thanks!

grim i am building a 6x54 diy fixture, 4x54 on a IC660 and 2x54 on a advance will the 2 fan Azoo clamp on work on this for cooling the label sides?

First, I want to say thank you for all the help you provide. You are doing everyone a great service. Reading through the thread was a real help in picking out lights.

I have a 125g (72"x18"x22") and decided to go with the Reef Geek aqua illuminations 6 bulb 60" t5 HO retro. I'm going with the bulb layout below, and was just wondering how I should wire it for dawn/dusk. I'm thinking of bulbs 1/3/6 being the dawn/dusk, does that make sense?

Front
1. ATI Blue Plus
2. KZ Fiji Purple
3. ATI Blue Plus
4. GE 6500K Daylight
5. ATI Blue Plus
6. ATI Blue Plus

Thanks again!

Grim, currently running 6x24 sunpower on a 36x20x20 and thinking of adding a few more SPS. The blue is washing out more of the red's and purples. What bulb to swap out or can order change to get results, Running your recipe:
Blue+
Actin W
Blue+
GE
Blue+
Blue+
