Hey Grim,

Just got my 4x54 power module in today. First time doing a reef, no corals yet, but looking for flexibility as I am not sure what I want to keep. Tank info below if necessary.

Thanks in advance.

got a 125 sps dominated tank and want to do all t-5. Right now I have 3 aquablue+ and a fiji , all 80 watt. What 2 bulbs should I add all bulbs will be overdriven. Which 2 bulbs should I turn on first and last?

ATI Blue Plus and have those turn on first and last. When you see how much better the tank is get two more and get rid of 2 of the Aquablues.

wondering if you could help me out on this one grimm im setting up a 75gal and will be putting 8 t5 bulbs on it running by 4 sylvania quicktronics ballest what bulbs would you recommend to give me the best coral growth and best color pop and what reflectors should i use im thinking maybe only 2 inch wide ones so i can be sher to get 8 bulbs in the canopy.

Ok, I have to ask again. I have 6 x 39w t5 retro on my 57g. I am running the following

Front
Blue +
Blue +
Fiji Purple
Blue +
Blue special
Blue +

I think I am running 2 much par, as I can not keep my SPS up very high with out bleeching and browning the corals. Also, can not keep chalices or acans without melting them on the sand.

I am looking for a bulb combo to reduce my par or get my light cycle dialed in to help out. Also was told that there was or is a red bulb out there that has lower par, but good color pop? any ideas on this

Yes. Real T5 ballasts and proven performance come with a cost.

I am running the recomended lights you gave me and love it but was wondering how it would look if i replaced the Gieseman Aquablue with a KZ Figi Purple. I would have them like this

Blue+
Figi Purple
Blue+
Blue+
White Actinic
Blue +

Would that be more of 22K look then a 20K look? I'm just curious how the Figi Purple would effect that setup

I just read you website so disregard my question. I'm going to go with the following on my ATI fixture:

Blue+
Blue+
White Actinic
Blue+
Blue+
Superblue

I just looked on the giesemann website and it says they have a new bulb named Actinic Pure. It says "Actinic pure is the latest of the latest T5 tubes. It is not as blue as the Actinic Plus and has a pure actinic sprectrum for the ultimate in fluorescence from your corals."
Have you tried this bulb? what do you think of it? What colors does it bring out in corals? Would you run it on your actinic time cycle? Is the bulb the same as the fiji purple just a different brand mabe? thanks in advance!

Heres a link to the spectrum graph:

Hey Grim!

Looking for your input to help correct a "pink" tank!

Using a Catalina Solar 4x54w 48" fixture. I've replaced 2 of the lamps with an ATI Blue + & a UVL 75.25, leaving the stock Chinese 460nm & 10k. I chose the 75.25 because in the pics I've seen online it appears less pink than the Fiji Purple.

Aquablue or 6500?

From your site:
***********************************
4 lamps

1. Blue
2. Fiji Purple
3. Aquablue
4. Blue

For a very blue look replace the Aquablue with a blue, for a more 10K look replace the Aquablue with a GE 6500K Daylight
************************************
Un-touched photos...don't mind the red nuisance as I'm dosing Vodka and not messing with it initially.

Thanks!

-Eric

Aquactinics reflectors with 6 lamps, 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 GE 6500K Daylight and a UVL Actinic White. It's just not worth trying to cram 8 lamps over the tank. You could throw a UVL Super Actinic front and rear with the internal reflector for a dusk/dawn pair for 8 lamps.

just visited your website and found it to be chuck full of info. Just wanted to get your opinion on my new light setup. I built a 8 bulb T5 retro light tray. All made out of aluminu
and hinged to lift front to back. The tank is a shallow tank. Water level will only be 17". Minus sand, more like 16". I mounted the light tray 10" from top of water. I am also using two icecap 660 to overdrive bulbs.

When placing the fans, where on the bulbs do you want the wind flow to go? Across the bulbs? Directly at the label? Or above reflectors driving off heat?

Also, with 8 T5's over a 60 x 30 x 18 tank, do you think 10" above water is ok? The tank will be sps and lps only.

Thanks fir all you do here!!

Hi Grim, i buy a power module 8 bulb, what could be the best mix of t5ho for a tank mostly zoo and yellow fiji leather? Thanks a lot

where to buy cheap t5 light new?

where to buy cheap t5 light new?

where could i find a t5 8 lamp bulb for cheap, i found ones like $400, is that the cheapest i can get it new cause im setting up a 120 gallon, so it's gonna be a little expensive, just wondering if i would be able to save some money on the light. and what type of bulbs should i use for a soft coral tank?

+1 im currently getting a similar tank built (66x22x18) would a 60" 6 bulb be ok for an sps only tank?

Add in a couple of UVL Super Actinics in place of some blue plus.

Give it a try. It will have a purple cast to the light but should look cool.
