Finally breaking down and posting,

Running a 4 x 39w Sundial over a 40g tank. The bulbs are the originals (6 weeks old) and from front to rear are;

Slimpaq 10,000k
Slimpaq 460nm
Slimpaq 10,000k
Slimpaq 460nm

Mostly zoa's and softies in the tank and while I'm happy with the 460nm's the other bulbs look too yellow to my eye and I'd like to get a whiter/bluer look.

Suggestions gratefully accepted

7 Bulb advice

7 Bulb advice

Grim,
I am switching over my lighting and I am going to do a custom 7 bulb setup. Looking to do a 3 ballast system, for a good dusk to dawn combo. Any other suggestions from what is listed below would be awsome as well as a possible lighting period. I am away from home most of the day so I want to adjust the lighing to meet my time schedule with work and school.

Front
ATI Blue + (b)
UVL Actinic White (c)
ATI Blue + (a)
UVL 75.25 (b)
ATI Blue Plus (a)
UVL Aquasun (c)
ATI Blue + (b)

Ballast A will be an IceCap 430 on from 1200-2400
Ballast B will be an IceCap 660 on form 1400-2300
Ballast C will be an IceCap 430 on form 1600-2200

Using ATI reflectors (2") w/ IceCap endcaps.
This will be on a 75 although I will be upgrading to a 120 in the spring of 2011.

Anyone else please chime in as well.

Grimm,

So, I've been reading your site trying not to ask this question but I'm kinda confused (sorry). I am setting up a 75g ( I know right, FINALLY, something original...sigh..) and I have a aquamedic 6x54 fixture (really happy with build quality, sleek look, led intigration and pricing) anyways, they have the front and rear light come on together and the center four lights come on together.

From what I have gathered from your site, I have chosen to go with D n D bulbs in the combination of 3 actinic +, 2 aquablue, 1 midday. (not wanting to go too blue but not wanting too white either...)

I see that you show two different bulb combinations depending on fixture and I don't know why. Hence the confusion.

So, what the question is (1 being front) would you reccommend this order or even this bulb combination?:

1. Actinic+
2. Aquablue
3. Actinic+
4. Midday
5. Aquablue
6. Actinic+

Again, I aplogize for asking this question but I'm a little lost (and poor so I don't want to/can't afford to buy multiple bulbs to just try).

Thank you in advance,
Mark

Don't LED's only come in blue and white to this point?

No, there are blue, royal blue, cool white, warm white neutral white. Warm whites are about the color of the UVL daylight lamps, slightly pink. I threw in a couple styles of cool whites with a few warm whites and a whole lotta blues. Total, guess. I hope I was right.

Try 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 KZ Fiji Purple and a ATI Aquablue

Try the 75/25 in the ballast B set, it will bring out some nice colors without washing out the blue look.

You just want blues in the dusk dawn position. Other than that you just want the lamps placed so you get even distribution so don't clump white lamps (Aquablue and midday) all in one spot

Well tank is a 90 gallon tank, dimensions are 150cm long x 50cm tall x 45cm wide. Right now I am just thinking about having soft corals maybe some lps, but later on I would like to have sps and clams. Thanks

in my opinion i wouldn't recommend the 8 bulb for your 90. i currently have a 6 bulb ATI SP over my 90 and have no issues keeping SPS. plus the 8 bulb is too big and will spill light over the sides.

I would do 5 ATI Blue Plus, 2 UVL Actinic White and a GE 6500K Daylight. Just place them how makes sense, GE around the center with an Actinic White front and rear of center with a Blue separating them from the GE.

thanks is there a particular vendor that you like to order from?
i dont know any and we no longer have a lfs..

i'm setting up a 50g 36x18x19 sps tank
i have the nova extreme pro t-5 6 bulb (stock bulbs)
can you give me a bulb combo that would provide better colors in the blue spectrum without sacrificing sps growth?
i've noticed lots of brands mentioned in your responces...is there a manufactor that sells all t-5 brands...or must people just shop around?

I currently have alternating between (3x) ATI BluePlus and (3x) ATI AquaBlue. Is that a good setup for sps? LPS? What's the disadvantage? thanks.

tank specs: 60x18x20
